What’s On the Horizon for Marvel Comics?

Mark Millar (Ultimate X-Men), one of the famed founders of what is now Marvel’s popular “Ultimate Universe,” is coming back to his roots with a new series, entitled Ultimate Avengers.

He describes the project as “the Ultimate line’s event book. It’s like Civil War or Secret Invasion happening twice a year as two crossover events take place annually with a new artist and a new cast of characters every six issues.” While the first storyline One of the house ads for X-Men Noir, featuring Magnetowill primarily focus on the main cast of characters from the first volume of his magnum opus, The Ultimates, the second story is entitled “Ultimates Black,” and will feature, among other things, “the origin of Hawkeye… SHIELD’s replacement Captain America, the reinvention of the Punisher, War Machine, and the African American Hulk.”

The new title will not debut until 2009. Read more about it here.

In other news, the creative team for the 600th issue of Amazing Spider-Man has not yet been announced.

Finally, Marvel will soon be introducing a new line of comics under the heading of “Marvel Noir.” Fred Van Lente (The Incredible Herc) and Dennis Calero (X-Factor) are slated to work on the first title of the new line, simply called X-Men Noir. Those of you who have noticed the various black-and-white teaser ads in various comics will soon be paid off. Read more about the new line here.
