NaturalMotion’s BackBreaker - Screens and Footage

NaturalMotion - the company behind the Euphoria physics engine (the one powering Grand Theft Auto IV) - has recently announced a football game using this engine, titled BackBreakers, with a vague release date of “2008″ set for it.  Additionally, a specific console/s have not been announced, either, but it definitely seems as if it will be on at least the Xbox360 and PS3.  Hopefully this can bring in a much needed breath of fresh air for the football game genre.

Here’s a clip from their press report:

“NaturalMotion Reveals First Backbreaker Gameplay Video

New Assets Show Upcoming Football Title’s Intense On-The-Field Action

NaturalMotion Ltd. has released the first-ever gameplay video from its highly anticipated American football title, Backbreaker. The company behind the revolutionary euphoria engine featured in Grand Theft Auto IV and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is bringing the same technology to sports gaming.

The video and screenshots demonstrate Tackle Alley, a minigame that shows off the stunning visuals, bone-crunching sounds and, most of all, the dynamically generated tackles made possible by euphoria. As the runner makes a mad dash for the end zone, opposing tacklers do their best to take him down in a stadium where no two tackles are ever the same.”

Here’s some semi-stunning footage of the game from GameTrailers.  Hopefully this is just early footage, as it looks quite plastic-y.  Even still, those are some quite impressive animations.
