If you were one of the many Sonic fans who have been disappointed release after release since the Dreamcast-era of Sonic was on shelves, now may be a time to finally get excited.  Sega confirmed yesterday that a new Sonic game that has been in the works for three years will be released this holiday season (2008) for the Xbox360, Playstation2&3, and the Wii.  The official report states:

“Players will have an opportunity to engage in ways never before done with the Sonic franchise, so in addition to running at high speeds, which will be highlighted in four new speed mechanics, combat fighting now becomes possible. New combat, movement, functional abilities and platforming will be introduced to offer increased depth and variety.”
