First Trailer of The Day the Earth Stood Still

No fanfare here, folks.  After over fifty years Klaatu is back, and he knows Kung Fu.

(Edit: A copyright claim has had the YouTube video pulled for now.  Though the video is available here on SlashFilm, and here in HD through FilmWeb.  Get it while it’s hot, because they’ll likely be pulled soon enough.)

While rumors portraying some of the changed elements of the plots have surfaced and meandered through the innerwebs, Keanu Reeves himself probably gave one of the most telling quotes about the upcoming film recently in an interview with MTV back in March.  Which, considering the context, seems to prove true in light of this new trailer.

“The first one was borne out of the cold war and nuclear détente. Klaatu came and was saying cease and desist with your violence. If you can’t do it yourselves we’re going to do it. That was the film of that day,” Reeves explained. “The version I was just working on, instead of being man against man, it’s more about man against nature. My Klaatu says that if the Earth dies, you die. If you die, the earth survives. I’m a friend to the earth.”

Whether we like it or not, the remake will open on December 12th of this year.
