Klaatu, Barada, Nikto, Whoa.
By now you’ve heard there is a remake of the sci-fi classic The Day The Earth Stood Still in the works. You might have also heard that it is starring Keanu Reeves. You may have also heard me screaming bloody murder and firing a machine gun into the air in protest.
I won’t try to be impartial here. I think this is just plain sacrilege. Remaking a classic, that is still poignant on its own with an incapable actor is just a sin to me. But, some of you may disagree.
AICN has scored a copy of the script, and… well… let’s just say they’re on my side.
No Gort. No Klaatu posing as a human. No interesting American history subplot/friendship with a young lad. Just.. ugh. Also, apparently the THREAT Klaatu is warning us against this time around is not killing each other as in the original, but global warming.
I’m all for going green, but wouldn’t it be about five thousand times more poignant to draw comparisons between the Cold War and the war on terror? They are both wars of fear. Wouldn’t it be prudent to try at tap into what made atomic age sci-fi films so cool?
WHY AM I NOT THE BOSS OF HOLLYWOOD?!
