New Year, New Entertainment

It’s 2009, and I’m excited!  I’m going to be like everyone else in the blogosphere and write about the things I liked in 2008, and what I’m excited for in 2009.

Not only do I like reality television, but I like television that corresponds to MY reality.  In early 2008 I was planning a wedding, so I started watching Bridezillas, Platinum Weddings, etc.  Of course all those shows weren’t true to life at all, but they were still fun!  Then in June I bought a house, so I discovered tons of shows about home buying and home decorating.  My favorites were House Hunters and My House is Worth What?, and my favorite new discovery was Moving Up, where people redo their new homes and then the old owners come through and crticize everything.  Now I have two new puppies, so I like to watch It’s Me or the Dog and The Dog Whisperer.  Of course I watched shows that had no relationship to my life at the time, but that made me feel better about my life as a whole: Jon and Kate Plus Eight and The Hills are the best examples.

I’m not sure what my TV watching will be like in 2009.  I know that I’ll be catching up on The City and catching the start of the new Real World, which looks like it may be a little more of a social experiment than other shows.  I’d like to start watching more serialized shows.  Heroes disappointed me, but I still like The Office.  I’ve caught a few episodes of The Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother, and was pleasantly surprised.  There haven’t been many hour-long dramas that caught my attention, but maybe that will change.  Feel free to offfer suggestions of shows I should watch in 2009!

Perhaps my biggest entertainment discovery in 2008 was podcasts.  It started as a necessity when I didn’t have computer access at a temporary job and needed entertainment.  I turned to podcasts and discovered a wonderful world!  Most of my podcasts are World of Warcraft-related, but I’m looking to branch out into more general podcasts.  Mainly I like listening to WoW  podcasts though, because none of my real life friends play so I like listening to people talk about my favorite way to waste my time!

Which leads me to my entertainment of the year: definitely World of Warcraft.  I started playing in late 2007, but became officially obsessed in 2008.  I hit the level cap and did a few of the lower level raids.  The Wrath of the Lich King expansion came out in November, and I ran out and got my copy the first day and am loving every minute of it.  I did not meet my goal of hitting 80 by the new year, but right now I’m level 79 and will probably hit 80 next weekend, just in time for my birthday!  Maybe I should wait and have a birthday ding!  (That’s WoWspeak for leveling.)  Seriously, I really don’t play many games, but I love WoW.  It sucks me in for some reason in a way no other game can.  Even when I played Knights of the Old Republic I didn’t get as obsessed, and Star Wars is my favorite thing ever.  So, if you want to have your life sucked away, try World of Warcraft!   For games, I’m looking forward to more WoW in 2009, and also more playing of my new Wii!

Movies: I saw some in 2008.  I think my favorite was Cloverfield.  I’m looking forward to several in 2009, mainly Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.  I’m also excited for the adaptation of one of my favorite books, Confessions of a Shopaholic.  But I’m also expecting to be disappointed by it.  We’ll see!

I hope you all had a good 2008, and that 2009 is a fabulous year for all entertainment-wise!
