So I love Bond films. Love ‘em. So of course I was gonna check out Quantum of Solace opening night.  I was impressed with Craig as the new face of 007 in Casino Royale and I wasn’t disappointed this time around.  Craig may not be as sophisticated as Connery (who is?), and definitely not as pompous as Moore.  Certainly not as mainstream as Brosnan, but he is definitely an action guy, and I can tell you that that has long been missing in Bond films. Too many episodes in the Bond franchise have been all too dependent on gadgets to get Bond out of jams. Or worse, horribly designed action scenes, particularly in hand-hand combat which made you wonder just how lethal Bond really is as a secret agent.  His small Walter PPK pistol was meant to be a great visual device to show you that he didn’t need a big gun because he’s a one man killing machine, but too many Bond performances made it hard to truly believe that.  Well not in QoS.  Not by a long shot! Remember, the series was basically rebooted in the last film, where we saw Bond gain his 00 status and have his first real mission. So it is only natural that Craig, this young Bond, is raw, in your face, edgy, and above all ruthless in how he pursues his enemies.  (More...)
