Spidey 4 and 5 Could Film Back to Back

Despite the general consensus of slight disappointment regarding the last installment, Columbia and Sony seem intent on continuing the cash cow franchise that is Spider-man.  Although series regulars such as Maguire and Raimi have yet to be mentioned in any official capacity, Zodiac screenwriter James Vanderbilt has already been commissioned to pen the upcoming films.  Cinematical reports today that Vanderbilt has even gone as far as writing two sequels, connected in storyline.  Ideally, the two interconnected films would conceivably be shot back to back, much like recent long affairs such as Lord of the Rings or Pirates of the Caribbean.

No mention of anything further specific is made within the report, including who would star in the two films, or what Spidey villains would appear in them.  Given factors such as the lackluster reception of the third, as well as Marvel’s recent “relaunch” of their film franchise coinciding with their own studio, a reboot seems to be well in order.  Many on our boards have taken notice and appreciation that this year’s Marvel offerings of Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk arguably could be occurring within the same universe.  And considering Robert Downey Jr.’s long rumored and recently confirmed cameo as Stark in Hulk, Marvel seemingly agrees.  A darker and grittier (and jazz dance free) Spider-man along these lines could be well welcome.  Though of course, we’d be more than happy to hear why you may disagree.  Let us know in our Comics & Animation or Movies forum.
