Live, From Mars! It’s The Phoenix Lander!

Over the next month or so, we should be seeing some incredible images beamed down to us from the recently arrived Phoenix Lander, currently getting ready to further investigate the Red Planet. To further simplify things for our readers so that we don’t have a new story every time a new fantastic image is release, be sure to drop by this story often for the latest shots and information from Mars, hand picked especially for you!

Monday, June 2:

If you were lucky enough to have signed up for the promotion prior to the launch of the Phoenix, your name is now contained in this DVD attached to the hull of the craft!

If you missed out, never fear. A message from the twitter account for the craft last week announced that NASA and JPL will continue the promotion for the next Mars bound lander.

Thursday, May 29:

This shot represents of the first of hopefully many fuller resolution color pictures taken from Phoenix.

This shot points towards the northeast of Mars, looking at part of the polar region that NASA and JPL hope to investigate over the next few months. If you’d like to download the full resolution file of the image ripe for a wallpaper, hit this link from NASA.

What you are seeing above might not be initially clear or seem as cool as previously released Mars photos. But look again! Because what is actually pictured is an aerial shot of the Phoenix parachuting in for a landing, courtesy of the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter. Thanks to our own Pavonis for making the clarification in our thread covering the Phoenix.
