Netflix Hits Major Snag, Apocalypse Ensues

If you are one of the countless subscribers of Netflix, you might find their “next business day” claim to be just a little bit of a stretch for the foreseeable future.  Users have been reporting problems for the duration of this week, and Netflix is finally coming clean with an admission of the problem.  The company claims in a notice on their front page that there have been “issues with (the) shipping system”.  Netflix hasn’t gone into any further detail of the problem, yet promises that all users affected by the outage will receive a credit to their account.

Also problematic, it appears that customer service has taken a significant dive during the issue.  Commenters on Hacking Netflix, a popular blog following the service, are continually claiming that customer service representatives are being noticeably harsher and shorter with customers than they are accustomed to.  This is a stark change from the normally quick and cheerful service that the company normally provides to subscribers.

Speaking from past experiences, I can say that I have also noticed the shift in tone.  The entire Netflix site went down a few short months ago, and I had called in to check on an update of the situation.  The representative seemed to be good natured, even joking around with me about the issue.  A call in today brought me into contact with a woman who only rudely informed me only that she refused to tell me anything more than the notice on the site said.  I was honestly shocked with the shift.

If you are also a Netflix subscriber, giving them a call to let them know of your lack of appreciation couldn’t hurt matters.  Their customer service number is 1-888-638-3549.  Make sure that you look up your six-number customer ID at the bottom of each Netflix page before calling.

  1. Is there any reason, other than to annoy them, for me to call now that I know there’s a reason for the delay and that I’ll be reimbursed?
