Water On Mars Could Be Confirmed Today

NASA is tight lipped so far, but if Popular Mechanics is a publication that you might find yourself believing, a press conference this afternoon by NASA and the University of Arizona could be being held to announce water on mars.

The Phoenix Lander has found indirect evidence of traces of ice on Mars before, but that find back in June never gave any specific indication that it was actually ice formed out of water.  However, the substance did seem to disappear after a length of time, giving NASA scientists some hope that at least some type of liquid was active on Mars.  This new find suggested by Popular Mechanics would be the first factual find of water on another moon or planet outside of our own.  Similar existence of liquid has long been suspected on a moon of Saturn as well as our own, but there so far hasn’t ever been anything to confirm it.

While an announcement of some type of intergalactic insect would admittedly be more astoundingly awesome, the presence of water may not seem as comparably boring to those who haven’t followed some of NASA’s unmanned space exploration.  The presence of water on our neighboring planet wouldn’t only harbor tremendous support for suspicion of some life there, but it would prove to be a great resource in the prospect of sending a manned mission there.  But of course, all bets are off until the press conference at 2 p.m. Eastern time.
