I need information on how much money movies have made/grossed. IMDb has a lot of info but its mostly for box office income. What I really need is info on "back end" markets such as home video and rentals. I really need this info for Fargo and several others. If anyone could point me in the right directin I would surely appreciate it.

Everybody wants it. Nobody has it. Join the club who has looked in vain. As far as I can tell, either nobody tracks that kind of comprehensive data or it's considered proprietary infomation and you'd need to be in the industry to get it. All that you're ever likely to find is end-of-year totals in the year of release. Which is alright, but of course if a movie remains popular, it should continue to make decent money for years to come. But I've never seen data of the sort listed anywhere.

But if you ever find it, let me know. [Smile]

Wouldn't www.boxofficemojo.com at least have records of the ticket sales? I was just looking and it seems they have some more specific data you can view if you part of their paid service, doesn't look to be records of homevideo sales though.

Yeah, BOM is the best site for box office data, but it's just box office. No home video data.

Boxofficemojo is very useful. What I'm doing is a project for class in which I have to create a business plan for a script we have read. The point is to convince potential investors in giving money (we already have the script budgeted). The thing is, the big money comes from back market value. With foreign totals and evidence of box office success I can creat a pretty convincing argument since big box office success indicates a large back market value. Having real evidence of home video money from similar pictures would really seal the deal but I'll do what I can with what I have found. Thanks for all your input.

Yeah, I'm in this club as well. I could have really used this information for my own business plan. Since I couldn't find it, I had to project my totals based on marketing penetration into specific population areas (in my case, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia), genre interest (indie horror movies are more likely to gain interest than an indie romantic comedy, for instance), age demographics (which are trending upward as the first generation of kids who grew up renting movies and playing home video games breaks the heretofore ironclad 34 years old demo), and I even threw in an apathy rate to cover the people who wouldn't buy an indie movie if their life depended on it.

It was all a big pain in the butt. I'd have much rather found a comprehensive source to base my numbers on. >:-#

So add me to the list of people to notify if you ever find a good source for DVD sales.
