If possible I think it would be cool if the administrators put up a link to show the history of Nightly.Net. If not could one of you reply to this thread and tell us who came up with the idea. How the Star Wars connection was thought up? And the important moments in this site's history.

I don't think I'm going to write out a history for Nightly, I'd take too long.
This should sum it up: server problems, arguing, trolls, and star wars.
Nightly.net actually started out as just the message board for EpisodeII.com. There was only one forum, "Episode II Predictions."
And Nightly grew to include other things like movies, television, video games, etc.

Hmmm, yes, that appears to describle the illustrious history of Nightly.net accuratly. I'm quite certain that devoted posters and CLs of the other forums will quite agree that anything related to them is how you described it.

July 15th 1999- I go to see Episode 1. Feel the thirst for more.
28th August 1999- Thirst returns after watching the OT again, and then going back to see Episode 1 makes me want more. So, I go to yahoo.com, and type in 'Episode 2' and what comes up but a little known site called episodeii.com. Then befoe I know it I'm on nightly.net, named after my favourite voodoo tomato headed Darth Maul.
20th June 2001 - Still hanging on. Counting down the days. I still have the same old thirst, but at least I know I'm not alone. I love nightly.net!

Actually, I recall reading somewhere in the mid 90's where GL admitted that the line meant eat **** and die... So you're actually right DP

The "Great Blackout" was from Oct 24, 1999 - Dec 4, 1999. Not technically a crash, if I remember. They were just getting a new server up and running.

Ah, now the sordid story comes out. Fess up, Mav hacked in and blew up the server, didn't he?

The boards used to be red. God is the first registered user. There used to be a Jedi Council. Many members were jealous they were not on it and fell to the dark side. The first thread to reach 100 posts was the original Leia vs. Amidala thread. Several boards "disappeared". I was the last moderator appointed by Chris before JA took over the boards full time. There was an Austin Powers board....It no longer exists. To the best of my knowledge, I am the earliest registered member still posting under my original name...AND I STILL HAVEN'T REACHED 1000 POSTS

Time Magazine just featured an article about the history of the universe, and how it will end. They compressed the history of all existence into an exponential time line that begins in the most unimaginably small fractions of a second, where the universe expands from the size of an atom to a grapefruit, to the infinite future, trillions of trillions of trillions of trillions of trillions of years from now, when all matter begins to fall apart and collapse into black holes larger than billions of galaxies.
Yet somehow, I find Nightly's history more interesting. I'm particularly fond of the early "Cantinite Era".
