Hmm, I am not aware of closing a thread just because it questioned a decision I have made. Although I did close a dupilcate of a thread that questioned a decision I had made. I explained in that instance that I was doing it to make reading and replying to the topic at hand easier on all parties behalf.

The "Cantina Trolls" were banned by me, i have made it clear my feelings towards alias'.
As far as threads being closed there are a few reasons that you think it is too much. For one, you are used to seeing the Cantina as a "anything goes" type of forum, which was never the truth. It's just that we never actually had someone there as much as we do now to watch over things. So threads that should have been closed all along will now be closed. It will take some getting used to I am sure, but you will.
Also we all know that the collective membership is going to "test" the new CL's, and the CL's are going to set the limits. Give it time before jumping on the "they are too strict" bandwagon.

I understand where you're coming from DP, but you have to look at it this way.
Many people have responded in the cantina already about how they don't like how this was being done.
I personally was IMed by 10 different people on AIM telling me they thought it was crap.
I'm not saying change anything. I'm saying that you need to listen to what we want, and try to accomodate for that. Don't say "live with it" when you make new rules.

I really don't care how you did things, I care about how I do things. And it was MY decision to ban those names......I have made it clear how I feel about alias's.
I did all the research I needed to do, I look at the name and made my decision.

DA, no new rules have been made. It is just that now the existing rules are being enforced...that's all.
And no I don't have to do what you want. You have to remember the way we make decisions. This is a family board, we have gone around and around with this issue, and it will be a family board now that we have people around the Cantina enough to really police it.

I am not here to satisfy each and every one of you on a personal level, I am here to make sure things run according to the rules. And the last time I checked JA and I set the rules. I hate answering for my actions, but I will to shut you up.
I was PMed about to alias trolls in the Cantina, and they were attacking Jason. I went to the thread in question and saw two trolls with one post each, both of them an attackl towards Jason. Was it a joke? Who knows, but I am not going to sit around and wait for them to continue. Alias trolls attacking a member....what do you think I was going to do??

What you saw was 2 aliases repeating exactly, verbatim, what was previously said by OTHER MEMBERS. Why not ban them too? And close all their threads while you were at it?

Well quite frankly, no. Show me a "derrogatory remark" that I sent your way. How ever, why don't you tell us what you edited out of your last post on this thread....because I know what it was.
This is a dead issue, the names will not be unbanned. What threads are unlocked is up to Torch and numbersix.

Being a moderator of the deadest board next to X-Files has taught me at least a few things.
While I don't generally like aliases, I don't see that one post can tell what a person is like. I'm not trying to justify the actions of the(se) user(s). I'm just saying that a PM should have been sent, or some sort of contact, setting an ultimatum, should have been made before a banning took place.
On the topic of the new moderators - the Cantina is the most popular board here at Nightly. For the longest time, I thought that it needed new moderators, because a board of that magnitude can't be moderated by one (part time) person. As a CL, I have to understand the judgement and decisions that go into anything - be it moving, closing, deleting, editing, whatever - and respect the choices that the CL's make.

We ALL signed an agreement when we joined Nightly. Part of it states word for word:

Deleting/editing/moving/locking. All the same thing basically. DP is right about the Cantina being lax for quite a while. Now we have a couple good CL's who are doing what they are supposed to do. Maybe the 'trolls' weren't doing anything. Maybe they weren't going to but like most everything else, it's a judgement call. To me, it looked like these 'trolls' were sitting on AIM with their friends and having a good laugh. Maybe someone got dared to have a little 'fun' on the Cantina. I don't know, don't care. In the end, it was a test of whatever kind for whatever reason. Torch nipped it in the bud. Again, purely a judgement call. DP and JA choose these two guys for their good judgement and now DP is standing BEHIND his CL and the decision that was made. Nothing wrong with that.

Although I disagreed with some of the threads at the Cantina being closed, I totally understand. DP was right in saying that the Cantina is not an 'anything goes' forum. The Lando System falls more under this category...

The point is that an offensive remark looks different to different people. I never flamed you, yet you called me prejudice and you don't think that was a flame towards me. Re read this thread, I came here to simply explain that I banned those names and to not jump to conclusions about the way Torch runs things. But all of a sudden I am thrown against the wall and forced to explain my every move.
I don't have to explain ANYTHING! But each time someone has a question about why things are run the way they are, I am the first person to get into an all night "explain-fest" trying to make you all happy.
I don't have to explain a damn thing, and I am not going to do it any further.
I stand behind numbersix and Torch 100%. If they want to close a thread in the Cantina then it is their right to do so, if they want to reopen one, that too is up to them.
That is all you need to know, we make the rules and we enforce them. You don't like it then find a new message board.

Whoa now, boys and girls. The fact of the matter is: DA and Rei created two names which they used to a post messages such as "Suck it, Jason." That was the first or second post out of that member, and I'm always, ALWAYS going to ban new members that do something like that. That's how things have ALWAYS worked. I'm not going to PM them as ask them to cool off. If their first post is something offensive, well then it's safe to say that they registered just to come and piss people off. And I don't give a crap if it a was a joke or not. You guys shouldn't have done it. The names will stay banned and the threads will stay closed.
