Again, from the main page, spoiler thread titles showing in the "Last Post" column.
Should I just bookmark the Cantina and ignore the rest of Nightly completely?

I think the explanation they've offered speaks volumes Ryn... They haven't done anything, they probably haven't commented about it, discussed it with the mods (as I'd presume you'd then know), or anything else... They're content apparently. Either that, or our Adminsitrators have fallen back into the lack of communication rut... I hope that isn't the case, but if it is... Well... I know what I must do

Actually the thread titles have gotten better... but there are still a few spoilers that I still see that I would rather not - and the solution is simply not putting the spoiler in the title.

That would require someone to actually enforce the stated rules... Quaint idea... I wonder if anyone's thought of that one before.

LOL! That guy... sheesh, what ever happened to him since Mandard busted him for speaking to himself?
Besides, I tried to patch things up with him... oh well.
I kept meaning to explain this, DVT.
Your referring to Spud Boy, who kept insulting Sarth Didious, right?
Well, I spoke to Sarth on the phone a couple of days later, and asked him why he used an alias to insult himself, and he told me that is was actually his brother that logged in under Spud Boy.
Anyway, he did sound genuinely surprised when I told him that Mandard thought that he had logged in as an alter-ego.
And Mandard, if your reading this, he told me to tell you that if you had looked to see who was online at the time, you would have seen that both Sarth Didious (him) AND Spud Boy (his brother) were BOTH online at the same time. He hasn't been online lately due to his break from college, which is why he didn't see your response to his thread about Spud Boy. (But he's just received a brand spanking new PC for christmas (Windows XP, Pentium 4, GeForce II graphics and so much more, LUCKY HIM ), so as soon as he's online using that, he will be able to come here again.) And, Mandard, he's asked me to beg you to un-ban him if you've banned him since Spud Boy was no alias of him, it was his brother.
So, DVT, he's told me that he didn't realise you were joking, and he's considering clearing things up with you (all the online multiplayer experience he's had causes him to take offence easily ).
Have I still got any breath left? I'll shut up now. I hope that clears up just about everything.

If I had a nickel for every time somebody blamed their "brother" on an exact IP match...
He's not banned anyways, so I don't know what the big deal is.
On the prequels titles, there was no practical way to get it taken off, so I was personally editing out the heavily spoilerish titles. Since there hadn't been any more complaints in the month or so since this was last brought up, I figured that must have been working for people, even though I'm sure I've missed some here and there.

Mandard, when we're told that you and JA are going to consider something we give you time... If your solution was to manually alter the thread titles you could have told us that and it would've partially been sufficient. However, again, the Admins didn't communicate with us and left us thinking that nothing was being thought of or done about a problem called to your attention.
There's no need for spoilers to be in any thread title. That has always classically been the rule of Nightly. Since you clearly don't care about being spoiled for this movie I doubt your appraisal of what is and isn't a major spoiler is of much value to those of us that avoid the forum all together to avoid them. Enforce the rules or find a better solution like moving the placement of the forum.

Well... I think a "spoiler cleaning" thread should be started in each forum. If someone replies in a thread with a spoiler title, he should also make a reply in the "spoiler cleaning" thread right away, then the spoiler title won't show in the "last post" column.

Just thought I'd throw something in the mix here:
Has anyone considered the fact that NN has at least 2 forums dedicated to movie franchises with legitimate spoilers? Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter are based on books that already exist. Star Wars "spoilers" are based on officially released info, guesswork, and rumor at best.
Just wondering why no one freaks about about LOTR spoilers when someone who's read the entire novel could ruin the whole thing for someone in with one careless thread title. Yet the best anyone can do is maybe spoil a surprise or two in the upcoming SW Prequels. Even then... we still know how it ends, don't we?
I guess I just find it all a little misdirected. The films with real spoilers don't seem to cause such controversy (or warrant separate forums for spoiler-free discussion), but the possible spoilers of The Prequels are such a hotly debated item.
Also, what's so horrible about just typing www.nightly.net/cantina (or whichever forum you usually visit) and avoid the front page? Or bookmark it. You can easily hop around using the menu at the bottom without ever seeing the front page "spoilers" in the titles.
But, I'm obviously not nearly as bothered by all this stuff as some of you are, so don't let me get in the way. Just my thoughts, and maybe it's come up before, I don't know. As you were.

I disagree, TD. Because something is publicly available does not make it publicly known.
While there may be newspaper reports on certain aspects of the films, the majority of information revealed in thread titles are select and definite items and are unlikely to be found in mainstream sources.

Oh, and Ryn, I understand that argument completely. But, I still think it's very easy to navigate NN without ever visiting the front page at all.

So for every forum I frequent here, I should at least bookmark each category and navigate Nightly accordingly?

No, I mean just use the "Hop To:" menu at the bottom. I'm not sure how you usually log-in (bookmark, or typing the url), but just change it to the Cantina, or Lando, or Feedback, or the Mod forum, or whatever you like. Just go directly to one of the forums rather than the main page. You won't see the full list of "Who's On-Line" on the front page or the forum descriptions, but you can access every forum at NN directly from any other forum. The only extra "effort" would be scrolling to the very bottom of the forum to get to the "Hop To:" Menu. But, you'd have to scroll NN's front page anyway, if that's how you chose to navigate, so... again, you're not really losing much time or info doing it this way. In fact, you may actually save a step by going right to a forum rather than the main page first.

You know what? I forgot about "Today's Active Topics" on the front page, another feature you'd miss just using the hop to.
So, I guess if you absolutely have to see the active topics throughout all of NN, and absolutely don't want any SW spoilers -- which would be a strange combination, if you think about it -- then I'll concede the point. I don't fit into either category, but I think I'd be able to manage even I did. I, for one, wish there could be two LOTR forums because I might want to discuss the "big you-know-whats who help the you-know-whos seige the you-know-where in TTT," because I know that's a spoiler, but I'm afraid a thread title like that might not attract much interest.

Have you even used your suggestions regularly, TD?
Hell, it really shouldn't matter anyway - I'll just deal with it. Evidently, I'm the only one concerned about it.

All the time, and for quite some time, too. I usually come into NN through www.nightly.net/cantina . I don't have it bookmarked. I either type it, or use the pull down menu next to the address bar of my broswer (history of recently typed urls). And, I'm not even trying to avoid spoilers, really. The Cantina is just the first place I usually check, even if only for a minute or two.
If I used bookmarks for NN, I'd probably just set it to the Cantina rather than the main page.
It's not a big deal to me, but I guess it's inconvenient to many because it's simply not habit. I don't think twice about it. But, I know that if I were personally very worried about spoilers I'd find a way to avoid them, and this method certainly works with very little extra effort, or loss of info, if any.

Well, I do think this is a valid concern. It’s not the most serious problem we have, but I have no problem with people asking about it. For now, I’m just going to keep doing what I’ve been doing, since I see no better solution. The only problem that I can see is people who are unsatisfied with what gets edited and what doesn’t. But I really don’t know how we can satisfy everybody on this. I’m sure every person has their own ideas as to what's a spoiler and what isn't. I think the thread Ryn was asking about was one that had the names of new planets in it. All I can say is that I saw it and it didn’t register to me as something that needed to be edited. I guess whether or not it was truly a spoiler is all in the eye of the beholder. If I’m biased towards my own views, I apologize, but I am trying my best to be fair. I’m certainly not purposely trying to antagonize or ignore people who are spoiler-sensitive.
As for spoilers in other forums, I don’t think it’s become a problem yet. We talked about it for LOTR a little while back and decided to just play it by ear and see how things went leaving it up to the common sense of the members (yeah, I know that’s risky ). But so far, I think things have gone well, although a long-term policy will probably be needed at some point. Same sort of thing applies to HP.

Um.. I don't know if this has been suggested, but you know how the Moderators Area board doesn't show the last topic, it just shows the date? Could you do that with Prequels? I don't know anything about UBB so I don't know if that is possible.
