I really don't like the idea that we'll have the feature here at Nightly. The reason is because I don't believe that most of the members will use it responsibly and immaturely. It will also be a target for trolls and toublemakers and it will only create problems in most of the main forums. I just don't see why it's necessary for this feature to come to nightly.

Maybe JWQ is worried that when the polls do come out, he'll be polled as the biggest whino.

Well I am looking forward to it. If sued right and controlled by the admins and mods it should be fine. But I was thinking maybe if there was a way to limit members to be able to post lets say only three polls per week. That could really help to cut down on wasted space.

But there is still the alias factor. There are many individuals in the Cantina who probably have over a dozen aliases who could take this rule for granted. This matter should be looked into and decided by Mandard and JA before it is integrated into the daily system here at Nightly.

Mods and admins know who the alias are. You cant hid from us.
Another idea is a member could have to ask permission before they are allowed to post a poll. And must ask the mod if he or she agrees to allow it to be posted. That way there will not be multiple polls over the same thing. Just another idea.

I'm actually loving this thread and the replies that it's receiving. There are many negative things that could come with the installment of this feature and the typical members who I knew would blast the living hell out of it did so. Nothing surprises me anymore with you people. You should grow up and realize that I have a vision of Nightly that is pure of fun and enjoyment for all but I am criticized for voicing my opinions.
It's all happened before to other members who tried to voice their opinions of what was best for this place but were attacked by the very same individuals. They only do so because their egos and their power on the forums would be in danger if what was right were to happen.

Yeah, I don't think 3 would be too strict a limit.

When the time comes that polls are introduced, I have no doubt that initially, they will be a horrible nuisance. We will be flooded with polls as everybody tries them out, there will be tons of complaints about them, people will demand that they be taken out and all the people who said that polls would be a bad idea will go around crowing their "I told you so"s and stirring up as much controversy as possible.
And then after a matter of days (maybe weeks if enough members decide to make a big deal about it), the novelty will wear off, they'll become accepted, people will only start using them when they need them, life at nightly will go on and everything will be fine.
So feel free to crusade against them as long and as hard as you want, but in the end, it's not going to change anything.

JWQ I'm not saying this to be mean, but I think you take this place a little too seriously. It's just an internet community for us to come to when we want to relax, not a way of life.

LMAO!
From what I've seen on the 'Net, people tend to be quick to attack two types of opinions:
It's quite possible to express an unpopular opinion and not get jumped for it. The trick is making damn well certain that you have all your ducks in a row before you shoot your mouth off.
Excellent example of someone who does it well (IMHO): Lucas. He's said his peace many times in the past, even if he's been outnumbered 20-to-1. But rarely does he come off sounding like a complete loon. (I've even been surprised at how often I've agreed with him. )
THE MORAL: Your ongoing quest for self-martyrdom is useless against us.

Mandard makes things so clear doesn't he.

Pot calling the kettle black? And how the hell is whining all the time, and wanting everyone to know that you used to be a mod fun for all? Maybe you should try having fun for a change, instead of continuing on your quest for self-martyrdom, as Six so aptly put it.
"Boo-hoo, nobody likes me, you're being mean to me, you don't understand me." Stop being so damn condescending and maybe, MAYBE people will listen to you.

What's your excuse for my disagreeing with you? My ego's quite fine, and I don't think that even you can imagine that I have power, or am part of any "clique" here.

You still accuse me of that? How dumb are you? I think JA and the other fat cats have really brainwashed you, dear boy. Perhaps it's time for you to go on your way and perhaps learn something more truthful because that was perhaps the number 1 lie ever told....

Actually, I never thought of that little idea of the Hogwarts RPG. I only later took on the role of one of it's teachers and it really wasn't my fault in why it dried up. It was poorly designed and just started too fast.
quote:your vision now includes scrapping a good idea because some might abuse it
Well moron, and the title fits because you believe the words of a 17 year old administrator who can't keep his site in tact, I gave my reasons why because I feel it will continue with the downfall of Nightly and I was just stating my opinion.

My "spanking of the monkey" that you speak of is none of your business and I have excellent vision. I share the vision of the one Chris Sherman of a perfect internet community above any other. And that image has been shattered by poor leadership and power corrupted members who prey on the innocent and are not punished for it. If my vision is incorrect, than so be it. But, I stand up and defend my opinions and if you don't like it, tough ****.

You do realize that if this thread was started by someone..say..Silky Jinn...and she received the same response, you would possibly be *****ing and moaning like a little piss ant brat.

So tell me JWQ, is this the "real you"? The one that you feel would be such a great moderator? Cause I have such trouble being able to tell you apart from the one that always seems to end up in fights.
Your opinion on polls has been noted. However, if they are introduced into the UBB, we will use them. This will be closed since this no longer has much to do with polls anymore.
