We're very sorry, but right now, it's not practical to allow personal requests. If we allowed it once, we'd have to allow it for the next person which means we'd have to allow it for every person who's here and every member who will ever join. I look at the custom title thread, and I don't think we want to have to go through that with avatars and end up with a 10,000 image library of mostly unused avatars.
I've told the mods that they can request some themed ones for their boards if they wish. For now, that's all that's really practical. Again, we apologize, but we expect to have some expanded capabilities on this in the future.

what JA said before is he had to add both your and his icons in as part of the default library. Does this mean that we can have avatar images that would not add to make a "10,000" image library? Maybe link an image there, like on EZBoard? That would simplify things significantly.

Does being boring come with being a moderator as well as dandruff, nasty body odour and squint teeth?
Damn.
But I like mine. This little dude is one of the Voodoo Tomato tribesman, deep in the rainforests of Scotland. He only eats fried green tomatoes (but not the kind from the Whistlestop Cafe, they suck. And if we're being honest... are kinda overpriced).

Why can't we choose our own avatars like at ezboard? Is that going to be something that comes down the line? Also why are we even allowed to use avatars if we can't have signature images? Isn't it a bandwidth issue? If so isn't using avatars just going to bring back that issue?

I'll chaulk it up to the Superman Avatar I had been using that Jason is using, but I now I'm not using anymore because too many people are using it and I've decided I don't like using avatars anyway.

Would it be possible to have the avatar go UNDER the member number/status, etc? I think it looks silly breaking up the text. Just my $0.02.

I agree on the placement. I would also like them under the other stuff. Again, something we can not control and hope to be able to do in the future.

In regards to signature images, I wasn't involved when they were taken out. But IMO, they were extremely annoying. And I don't think I was the only one who found them to be a nuisance. Avatars don't extend the threads lengthwise and they don't take very long to load. Signature images were extending threads out for miles and they were bogging threads down horribly with slow load times. The images were too often large and bulky and when people would repeatedly post on a thread with their big old sig pics, everything looked so ugly. If bandwidth was a major issue as well, then that's all the more reason to have disallowed them. Not knowing the details of that sort of thing, I wouldn't know about the effects that avatars would have on this.
I'm honestly not a huge fan of avatars either. I think a lot of images tend to make things look cluttered. But at least these are neat and manageable. They're all a uniformly small size and they're out of the way so as not to extend the posts out any longer than they have to be.
Most importantly, despite the complaints on the selection and lack of customization, I get the impression that most people are very much in favor of having them.

I agree with you on the first part. The bad part about signature pics was that the size could not be controlled and too many people broke the rules. With avatars, you can't have anything bigger than what's allowable.
And since you can't have an image be too large, it would be great if we could link our own picture into it. There wouldn't be any size or distraction problem.
But again, if this is all we get that's okay too.

I picked an avatar, set it... then I clicked yes on "hide other users avatars" and hit "update".
So even though I don't like'em, do not wanna see'em and now can't see them or mine... I made sure that I wouldn't stick out in the crowd by not having one visible to people that can see them.
