Custom avatars can now be used. Simply enter the complete URL on the avatar selection screen. Images must be in jpg or gif format. Animated gifs will not be allowed so please do not use them. Avatars will be forced to a size of 48x48 pixels so no matter what the dimensions of the original image, it will appear at that size. Vulgar, indecent or otherwise inappropriate avatars will not be allowed and we reserve the right to remove any avatar if we feel it's necessary. We also have the ability to disable the feature for any individual member so if you abuse it, you may lose the privilege. The current library of avatars will remain available for use.

i did have an animated one. i was at work, and the only avatars i had access to were animated buddy icons i'd made. it be fixed now.
but for reference... yeah, there's not any way to prevent animated gifs, at least that i know of. i can definitely see how they'd get annoying, though.

There's no way to prevent animated gifs, but I'm asking people not to use them. They take longer to load and I think most members would find them distracting, especially if lots of people started using them.
