On a messageboard I used to frequent, Minas Tirith, they, a few months ago, added an option so that members could change their names as desired. Is this option avalible to this messageboard?
I would love to be able to change my name, which I made in a lack of creativity, but I do not want to lose my low member number.
Is an Admin able to change it? If so, would one?
I know of several other members who are not happy with their usernames as well.
I do realize that some people would abuse it, but thats what banning is for...

The option of changing your displayed user name (the name that appears when you post) is either turned off or is a hack (third party addition to the UBB program).
From my experience the admins do not wish that option to be available as in their opinion the option causes confusion and each time you change your name you take that name from use... meaning say if me as the Human Torch changed to Johnny Storm. Then when a new member comes along and wants to register, that Johnny Storm name is taken. In the mind set, eventually a vast amount of names will be used up and most of them won't even be in use.

You'd almost think Torch was a mod or something the way he handles all the questions around here.

People look for (supposedly) thoughtful and inspiring posts, not member numbers.

It made complete sense, though I don't entirely agree. He's saying that a low member means a higher status. I don't care about status, because I don't know anybody here anyway, but I like my low member number.
But 300+ posts is alot for me. On the IGN boards (before their insider only thing; I also chose a bad username there, gg13), It took me over a year to get 1000 posts, and thats only because those boards are extremely active. I was only on the Nightly boards for two or three months in '99, and have been here 5 or 6 months now...
It would take me an extremely long time to build up an account like this, but I absolutely hate this username... GG are my initials, and 12 was the age I was when I registered here... I'd much rather have a Star Wars name...

Gee Gee stands at an average humanoid height of 5'8" and weighs in surprisingly lightfooted at only 500 pounds. This sleek and slim droid is strong enough to handle all your shipyard to ship maintenance duties, while at the same time looks classy enough to help out around your house.
The GG12, General Maintenance Droid... available now from Industrial Automaton.
[story continues]
Gee Gee Twelve wakes to a sudden jolt of energy being shot through his torso. His confusion abounds as he notices blaster blots fly back and forth through the air around him. It's just then that he realizes his been hit. But hit by who and why? Humoursly he notes to himself that the reasons for all this isn't important right now. Strange he thinks, "Humorously?! Why am I thinking in these terms. " In a second two shots pound into the wall just off to his right. Gee Gee glances down and for the first time can see the wound to his mechanical torso. Then without a micron of data in thought Gee Gee blurts out, "I have a bad feeling about this."

There ya go GG12. Now you have a Star Wars name. Sure I just made that up on the spot, but feel free to pilfer it for your own use. Be happy, my friend, and imagine the possiblities.

The option is available but it is turned off and will remain so. It would just be too confusing. It’s hard enough keeping track of things without letting people randomly change their name whenever they felt like it.
If somebody wants a new name, they can register it. I understand the whole "status" issue, but I’m not very sympathetic to it.
