I don't mind Cuckoo editing my 'James Madison has a ***** up his ***' comments in the Lyceum, but now he is editing out any (inoffensive) comments that draw attention to the absurd irony of him complaining about censorship!

Well, I can be a pain in the neck, but I'm never actually rude to people; I'll think of something more creative.
I just thought Cuckoo complaining about censorship was funny, but he muzzled me...

You know, I lurk more than post in the Lyceum, but I have noticed that he's editing and closing a lot of stuff that probably doesn't need to be edited. Like the jokes a few people made in the Steinem causing it to be closed? I know some members already complained about it in a thread.
I mean, I know he's just trying to do his job, but that doesn't mean he should be controlling the board.

I've only closed a few threads, and I re-opened at least two of them after thinking it over. I've been editing out flames while keeping the point that the poster was making in all cases except one, that being the post that Captain Bleh refers to. I edited that more as a joke than anything else, and I can see how that was a mistake. I apologize and won't do something like that again to anyone there.
You know what? More often than not, really moderating a forum is not much more than babysitting, and that's really what I end up doing in the Lyceum. I don't edit out blatantly homophobic or bigoted comments even though I loathe them, I've never changed the meaning of someone's post because I disagreed with them, I don't delete people's posts because I think they have a weak argument, and I've tried to make it clear from the get-go what my policy regarding flaming is in the Lyceum. I don't know the average age of the posters in the Lyceum, but for the most part they all seem to be fairly well-educated; they can and most often do make their point without flaming, and they do it well. Flaming is pedantic, rude, and detracts from the enjoyment that others derive from posting in the forum. Bottom line is, I wouldn't have to even touch any posts there if people would just grow the hell up a little.
If you really want me to be hands-off entirely, petition Mandard or whoever else you think should hear it, and I'll step away and let the inmates run the asylum. Because quite frankly, I took on the moderator position as a favor, and while I intend to do the best job I can, I'm not particularly emotionally vested in the job, so it won't hurt my feelings either way.

Good post Cuckoo. And if it was just a joke, then that's alright.
That place is absolutely crazy. I sure wouldn't want your job. And editing out the flames is a good idea.

Have you ever been there? It's the most accurate description of the place I've ever heard. I myself don't even know why I go there sometimes, because the people get so frustrating.
However, there are always going to conflicting viewpoints. Some people in there need to realize that. I try to, but I'll admit sometimes I think people in there are the most ignorant idiots I've ever met. I'm sure they've thought they same about me a few times.

I calls 'em like I see 'em...
Now, I know you're probably just trying to push my buttons, and that's fine...I'm not going to get upset over any of it. Fact is, if not for a few people acting like babies there, we wouldn't need any moderators at all.

Anyway, this thread was started in jest, even though I saw no reason why you needed to butcher that post...

Well, when you made a post saying it was ironic for me to complain about censorship, I thought it would push the irony even more if I edited that post...like I said, it was pretty much a joke that I thought you would appreciate...but I won't do it again.
