Yes or no? I though the answer was no, but I've seen a few more than normal out there as of late. If yes, then when did it change? I know that it wasn't strictly enforced, so I was just curious. After all I always thought that they should be allowed. People can turn off the viewing of avatar's, so if things slow down for those people they at least have an option.

IMO,they should be.The star trek board has a .gif banner,why can't we the members have .gif avatars?

From what I heard a couple weeks ago, they are allowed as long as they are not a ridiculously large file. This also goes for JPGs and other types of pictures that are large but Nightly automatically sizes down. Some of these JPGs are larger than GIFs, so they ask you to make sure all files are of a reasonable size.

Lately I really don’t know. In my opinion they should be. But if it turns out Mandard does not want them I will get rid of mine.
