Exactly how considerably has activity dropped around here? And, compared with when? I don't visit all of the boards you listed, but LOTR, Star Trek and The Matrix don't really seem to be struggling, unless you're comparting them only to the Star Wars boards.
Consolidation is a good idea now and then, but something this drastic would seriously disrupt the community here, and accomplish very little aside from disappointing long time members and moderators who make Nightly worth visiting in the first place.

right now, some of those boards might not have very much activity, but they will pick up in the forseeable future... like the indy board, once the hype about indy 4 picks up more. harry potter gets enough traffic, and will have a new movie very soon. the matrix board is brand new. give it a chance. a new season of buffy will be starting etc...i could go on... movies and television probably could go together, but whats the point? and the sw boards (i think) should stay apart, since the story itself is easly broken down into the 3 catagories...
so i guess what im saying is that it was a great idea, but not really necessary. this is just my opinion. i could be totally off

I SHALL RUE THE DAY THAT EU AND PREQUELS ARE COMBINED! RUE I SAY, RUE IT!
Combine Prequels and CT, Mandard, but leave EU out of the equation.

FYI, the HP board is steady, not half as busy as the SW forums, or the Cantina and SWC, but it is consistent. And yes, as it comes closer to Nov, it will pick up considerably.

I don't believe that would be a very productive move. Individual boards may occasionally be closed and thrown back to a general board, but for the most part, the structure we have is working well and I don't see any reason to make such drastic changes. Most of those boards are doing just as well as they ever have. Except for prequels, there's no real significant decline in activity anywhere. And I'm sure I don't need to explain why Prequels isn't as busy as it was in May and June.

i can see it maybe if some of the boards didnt have a rise in traffic coming in the near future. but they do, ergo not needed. *sigh*

I bump this because some claimed that with the coming of certain movies, activity would increase. Well With the new Harry Potter flic now out, the HP board is as dead as ever. I doubt the new bond film will spark any life into the Bond board, and even with the twin towers the LOTR board will be still be dead as a doornail.

And I think your standards of "dead" are a lot more liberal than most people's.

LOTR and HP get decent amounts of traffic. You're comparing all the other forums to the community forums too much. Obviously community forums are going to get a whole hell of a lot more traffic, because it's not limited to one topic. Star Wars forums get about the same amount of traffic here for one reason, and that's because the whole foundation of Nightly was built around the idea of a Star Wars message board. I think all the boards are fine just the way they are.

what?! a lot of people post in LotR, and dont even think about consolidating the SW boards, have you ever seen what happens when someone (like me from EU) posts an EU reference in PT or OT, everyone goes crazy on us

The traffic on the HP board ebbs and flows. It is consistent. There is a core group who post there, plus a few others. It has never been as busy as the community forums, or the SW forums, but it does well enough.

Ok keep the EU board, and consolidate the OT and PT boards.

It's not the Harry Potter movie that's going to spark much activity in the forum, but book five ("The Order of the Phoenix") that will set that board buzzing.
Just because YOU have no interest in those things doesn't mean you can dictate and ruin it for everyone else. Fortunately, Mandard doesn't share your views.

First of all, ever since they incorporated comics into the book forum, it's been mostly a comics forum and not much (new) in the way of books.
That's all well and good and not a complaint on my part. However, if you then try to throw original writings of Nightly members' into that, they will get swamped by all of the other discussions going on in there. As little as the stories, poems and so on are read in the Writer's Guild, they would be read even less as much if you throw them into the Books and Comics forum.
Personally, I'd love to see some of those who frequent the Books and Comics forum come into the Writer's Guild and give some of the authors in there some input on their original works.
