I like the fact that the specifics in the memner of the moment are not openly listed anymore but you have to go to the daunting task of clicking over to the profile link.

Member of the moment is Cerulean, # 279; are these entities even active. I wonder if: A) there is a way for only active members to become Members Of The Moment and B) Members Of The Moment likely are inactive just to keep their memories alive.

It's purely random. Since 90% of registered members are inactive, 90% of the Members of the Moment will be inactive too.

There're some folk that still post on a daily basis who I'd functionally categorize as "inactive"...

Well in most cases, "never active" is probably more accurate than "inactive". I'd say that at least 75% of all registered members never make more than a couple posts. That's just how things go. Although some of them could be lurkers, but there's no real way to take that into account.
But yeah, every once in a while, I'll check out the number of members who have posted in the last 30 days (my definition of "active") and compare it to the total number of registered members. It always comes out to around 10%, which really is pretty good retention for a board of this size if you think about it. About 1 in 10 of all registered members at nightly have posted here within the last month.

I actually hate that. At CMGSCCC.com I have had to reregister over 5 times due to inactivity. I'm all for deleting member names that have been inactive for at least 3 months or more but anything less is a pain in the batootie. In fact three months is a bit short, because at that rate Red 5 would be deleted. I think it's safer and a better bet (if names had to be deleted at all) is to delete inactive names that are 6 months or more.

If or when we ever prune the member list, it would only be of members with less than 3 posts or something like that. That alone would be a large number of names. The point would be to get rid of the people who were never active in the first place.

You'll make an announcement before you do something like that, though, right?

So we can all post with our 2 post aliases to make sure they don't get pruned.

I was browsing this thing last week and it came up with about 8000 members, and now, only 5940, so did we really lose 2000+ members, albeti many junior members??
