I like that. You should drum up some buttons too. I suggest you use the "message board" font for the button font. The after that we need to get a feel for what it'd look like up. Some peeps have done "mock-ups"... you should do that too. Lastly I suggestion using a star background that has been reworked/improved like mine on page 2, or something else that works well with the your banner's style. Maybe even a solid color for the background instead of an image?
Anyway you should do something like that and mock it up. I think you have a great banner and if peeps see it in a mock up we could get a change done... instead of always talking about it.

Would a solid background look kind of EZboard-like? Solid would look good on something like Snowboard, but I would like something with a little bit of a pattern.

Great DW! I like the first and second one. I still like ES's, too.
Yeah I'm with you Destiny, a pattern is needed.

That's a shrunk down "mock-up" of what it would look like with DW's stuff. It's a bit blurry because I really compressed the jpeg quality for loadtimes and because it's shrunk slightly... but you can get the jist of things. It's approx 70 kbs download size, fyi for those slower net surfers who might be interested.

It's in desperate need of new colors. I've been sitting here trying to make colors work, but I'm not too good at that. All I know is that there needs to be less contrast (i.e. no blue and black [I would suggest two VERY close shades of blue]), and the whole scheme needs to be darker. And the yellow HAS to go.

The yellow followed link color is cool imo. The font could go white though. The "highlight" color would go the link color. That's basically what the Trek board did with the font and links and it all works with a black star background.

Sorry Torch but the yellow SUCKS! It's ugly and it detracts from the overall look and feel of the designs; old and new. White wouldn't work since the unfollowed links and font is mostly white. Maybe a purpley color would work better. Or even a soft, light green. *shrug*

[throws a Trading Spaces fit, re:Yellow] Bah! No taste!! [/Trading Spaces fit]
Well Yellow could easily be changed to Red. Anyway the present link color would work with a white font. It looks fine in the Star Trek forum.

I always thought a purple color for unclicked links and a bright (not too bright) blue for visited links.
Also, Andy, where did you get the image for the background that you used for the banner? If you could somehow convert that star pattern into something close to seamless, that would work perfect as a background for the whole page.

I'm also thinking it would be a good idea to request to Mandard and JA perhaps a link on the main site to a thread or something dedicated to this topic. That way all members will definitely see it and visit, and perhaps we can get a poll going on how many like the proposed design(s), and that way we can get a good idea on what the majority would like. I'd just kinda feel a little like a heel if one of these new ones get put up, without everyone who actively posts at least getting their opporitunity to see the options first. With an announcement put up or some kind, no one would then be able to complain of not getting their say in the matter. I think it's the best way to get this thing off the ground because then we'd have a definite response on what design is liked best (even if it's the current one), and make reason for the change if any to happen.

Okay here it is... DW's banner and buttons, with a color scheme tested on an EZboard. It'll look the same here, except for slight UBB to EZboard template differences but otherwise the color scheme would be the same.
It's a color scheme based of the "gradient" scheme used in Feedback once, but is now used in the Prequel forum. It's the regular Nightly colors of blue and black, but with white font, purple links and purple table headings. I also made the "white boarder" of DW's images into the "neonish" blue that the Prequel forum uses as the message table boarder so that everything flows together.

Well no... like the color scheme as it is. But the masses seem to want a change and a few said they didn't like the yellow. So I did the purple link color at that fake board to see what it'd look like. It works. I can dig it.

Now THAT'S pleasing to the eye. Good work Torch! Much better star pattern there too. I'd still like to see if DW cooks up a star pattern background that would fit the banner and buttons even more, but that mock up still gets a thumbs up from me.

Torch, red would almost be worse. It sort of clashes with the blue we have, as does the yellow. For someone who watchs Trading Spaces, you've got no sense of style. j/k Also ezboard colors don't always translate exact to ubb. It does look like prequel and personally I'd rather keep the main color scheme we have now. A better star background though as Jason mentioned. Also, your red (or any other color) links really don't matter on ST as I believe they can be set individually.

Personally I would like something more like ST's except darker. The two-tone blues work really well, but it would be just a bit too bright for this scheme... if anyone wants to attempt to adapt it for all of nightly, that would be cool. We just need to get away from this "true" blue stuff and get more into the grey-blues and dark-blues.

Okay... Question(s): What about that orange, those two blues, the white and the black? I could come up with a scheme based from those. You get the two shades of blue, white font, maybe the orange as a link. Should I cook something up?

IMO, the orange would be tackier than the yellow.

Orange? It's more of a gold. I persoanlly like the blue and black that we have. Also like the ST colors.

That link now carries the same basic color scheme as the GIF mock ups, but at that link the scheme is altered to include "black" reply, topic and category areas aka like Nightly is now. The result is truly a mix of Trek, Prequels and the traditional Nightly. Although out of the two I prefer the GIF mock ups.
Overall the color scheme uses 4 shades of blue, 1 shade of yellow... kinda more a mustard, orange or goldish color, black and white. It works.
