I have been coming here for about 1 year now. I've spent anywhere from 10 minutes here to several hours at a time. For the last couple of weeks though, I keep getting kicked out of the system after only 10 or 20 minutes. I wont be able to get back in for sevral hours either. I use WebTV which is not the fastest service, but I never had problems before. This is the message I get when I look at the details of the error;
quote:This message means that the MSN service was communicating with the publisher of a page, and the publisher's computer did not respond properly.
This can occur because the author made a mistake in preparing the page. It's worth trying a few times, since sometimes this problem will go away.
Technical details: This is a server result. 404 Not Found.
What is going on?? This used to only happen a few times a year, but now it's everyday, and it's only with NN too.

My computer has been doing that. Only to NN, not to any other website. Its working now, but takes a while to change rooms.

Also, it takes about an hour to process a reply to a thread. I usually have to press the refresh icon.

This isn't cool. Obviously it IS something with the NN server(s). We should take this up with Mandard.

You'll get much better answers about this over at Feedback than you will here. Ryn and I have absolutely nothing to do with the tech-support side of things.

I just wanted to see if I was the only one having these problems.
Would you mind moving the thread to Feedback??

We've always been running on beta software as far as I know, meaning bugs like this are rampant sometimes.
One wierd thing that happens to me is sometimes I will log onto nightly and none of the images will show. I'll go to any other site and it will work fine, even if I empty my history and internet files. I even asked about it on here once and no one else seemed to have the problem.

It's possible it's something with the UBB, but when the problems are isolated to just a few individuals, it's often hard to figure out exactly which end has the problem. When it's taking long to load pages or your request "times out", that may be something with your ISP. I don't know all the details very well, but every ISP has its own unique paths to each IP number through various routers and what-not. So when people have problems and it's not widespread, there might be a break somewhere in the chain of routers and switchers that only affects a handful of people. Obviously, when this is the problem, there's nothing that we can do about it.
I guess that's a fancy way of saying that I don't have any solution for you, but I'll pass it along. The problem might be at our end, but typically when our server has issues we hear about it from everybody.

Just a side note, I've been having these problems too. I just thought it was the servers here on campus, but it seems there's more to it than meets the eye.

What's an ISP? And an IP? I'm still having a few problems but its not taking as long now.

ISP: the big company that gives you Internet access, if you've been good.
IP: the Very Special set of numbers that your ISP assigns to your computer when it's your turn to play on the Internet. Some ISPs only let you have one unique set of numbers, while other ISPs will give you a completely different (but gently used) IP each and every time it's your turn.

The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.
Thats what I get sometimes when I try to log on to Nightly.Net . It does that when the Server is down , Takes me 20 to 2hrs to get back but most of time its 30mins.

MD, it's not an ISP thing either. Not when so many people are having the same trouble. I get the "page not found" too. In fact I've been getting it once a day for a couple weeks now. It's not taking long to load, nor is it timing out. It just isn't found. I have no trouble with any other site, just nightly.

Thought I better say that I've just been on cinecon.com and I'm having problems with that aswell. Nightly is getting better, but its still being a bit slow. It may be my computer now that its not just one site that's playing up.

I've tried to get on here a lot today and a few times last night and I've had no luck. I'm making the most of my time on here now b/c I don't know how long it is until the next time. I get page not found aswell. So annoying. Posts: 905 | From: England | Registered: Aug 2002
