Holy cow, what a nightmarish thread. Glad I didn't touch that one with a ten foot pole. Six was great though, I never would've thought of all of that in a million years. Even had that thread been kept open after that I think his post would've shut everyone up nicely.

That's right Jason. That's why I want it archived. As a testimony to great moderatorship that is so lacking in most of the messageboards I search for on the web. And it's not just that. It's posts like these that make me think, make me want to improve my thinking and logically analysing more. It's educational. And by golly, NN has contributed to my evolution. Whatever foul creature I may have become ( in some eyes) I for one have learnt more about life and people on this lonely message board than my parents ever taught me.

Well for one thing, people who use an alias to post personal e-mails and info about another member should be banned for good. Wouldn't you agree TR? But this happened. And that person still posts here under there regular name. That's okay because they got caught and they don't say anything any more. But other people saw they got away with it. It sends one big lesson to all the would be trouble makers and trolls, we can do whatever we want and have no consqences for our actions on Nightly. The TOS means nothing. It's never enforced. So let's just do away with all of the rules and any hopes of having a "community". Let's just have at each other until the last one here decides it is boring and leaves. It's a big joke and anybody who says differently is hypersenstive.

Oh but sure there is. There are message boards all over the internet that have one simple rule. " No Flaming or attacks on other members." I'm not talking about ending heated debate or even the occasional name calling. But when it's obviously intentional and meant to attack it can be dealt with. The problem is that nobody at Nightly has the willingness to do it because it actually requires effort. It's easier to shrug it off and just call it grudges and such. But it does nothing to make Nightly a better messageboard, community, or whatever you want to call it.

You can't rule the place with an iron fist. If every single arguement that happened here was looked at carefully and examined to see if it was an attack or just in jest.. that would take too much time. Especially since nobody cares except maybe one or two people.
The members who were obviously out for personal attacks day in and day out have been banned or at the very least warned. Give me the name of somebody whos Nightly existence is for the sole pupose of pissing another member off. Those people, Trolls, are banned.
Now, my understanding to what your saying is that normal members will take shots at somebody every now and then. My answer to that would be that taking shots at somebody makes up an extremely small percentage of what that person does on nightly as a whole, thus not making it big enough of a deal for that member to be permanently banned.

I disagree. If they go after the same person repeatedly it doesn't matter if they are "good members" most of the time. To me there is no difference between somebody who does that and a troll that goes on to a board trys to piss everybody off. The result is the same. It causes trouble and interrupts discussion. I'm not going to name any names because that would just open up another whole can of worms but there are a lot of members who have done what I'm talking about that still post here. Some of them were banned, some of them were not. But they got to come back and often times do it again. They do it because they are allowed to. Other boards stop it. Why can't Nightly?

The Difference between me, those two and you in the past, is that I only respond to attacks. When a troll attacks a board, some people reply, some don't. I don't think there is any wrong with treating somebody who intentionally acts like an ass like an ass. DP use to do it when he was Admin. I've seen Mandard and other mods be flip with people when they were acting like fools. But if you're nice so am I. Thank about it. I know you're not Silky's biggest fan. But do I go after you for it? No. I don't expect everybody to be friends. I just expect basic respect. Sinced you named them already I'll just be blunt. Euro recently started posting on Nightly again. Is he my or Silky's favorite member? Hell no. But I am more than willing to ignore his posts. But ever since he started posting regularly again he uses every opportunity to make little digs at Silky. He's admited he does it. It's a game to him. He does it because he knows he can. But he's singling her out. Once or twice maybe. But he's doing it consistently. That's the behavior I'm talking about that should be banned and that is the behavior that draws my wrath. It's wrong and unfair for Silky to have to post and wonder if he's going to turn into a dig. It's not that she can't handle it or that it upsets her. It's just the consistentcy of it is unfair. It does nothing to contribute to a discussion. D-Ray's not much better. You on the other hand seemed to grow up and keep your jabs to yourself. So I never say anything to you.

Well I haven't been keeping up to date on the "Euro situation", so I can't really use that to say one thing or another, I suppose.
But to say you only respond to attacks with attacks just isn't true. In the closed thread, you started an 'attack' against D-ray. I read nothing from him in that thread that would befit an attack. Now, in other threads that may be a different story. Like I said, I dont read every little thing.
I agree that a member shouldn't have to worry about every post they make, being the butt of a joke or fodder for insults. But making it into a big deal isn't going to help it any. The bigger deal it becomes, the more jokes and insults will follow. It goes hand in hand.
I would just PM Six, Mandard etc... and tell them to be on the lookout for the jabs and insults. They DO do something about it. Example... A couple members were making stupid comments in the Video Games board for months. Annoying everybody, attacking, causing arguements etc... Eventually, it happened enough times to where those members were banned.
If you PM them, they watch it for awhile and tell you that it's not a big deal, then maybe you're taking it to heart more then you should, and letting it bother you too much.

D-Ray knew what he was doing when he came on to that thread. Six even acknowledged that. And like I said this is about more than one thread. But It's not a personal Grudge. It's about fairness. I have PM'd or e-mailed every mod, admin, and person involved at some point in time. Euro and D-ray want to play their game. Mandard throws everybody in to the same pot and ignores it in the name of "tolerance". Six and Ryn do what they can but they get so many threads to edit it all looks like petty crap to them. Like all of the Mods, they are limited to what they can do without support from the Admins.

NumberSix posted that some of Euro's comments were comments that he might and probably would of made. But Six's intentions aren't the same as Euros and that is where the line is drawn. See, everyone know's and even Euro admits it himself is that his intentions are to annoy the hell out of ES and Silky. While Six's intentions are just poking fun at ES. Not only that, but the situation and the relationship between Euro and ES is much different. Something Six would say to ES, might be inapporiate if someone else said it. Just as a comment I might make to say Darth Whoever might be inapporiate to say to Silky. It all depends on the social grounds both of the individuals stand on.
It all depends on the situation and I think in this particular situation Euro's intentions are to get a rise out of both ES and Silky. He may not be making horrible harsh comments, but his comments are agrivating enough to reply to.

well, i do agree that DW was unjustly attacked as well. and with euro, i CAN KIND OF understand how ES and silky took his reply. them three haven't gotten along in a long time and probably never will and most of us know about euro, ES, and Silky and what has gone on in the past. but with D-Ray, i think it is blown way out of proportion with him. D-Ray said, "better start saving up for diapers, friend." and the way i read it, it was just a harmless joke, that was taken WAY too seriously, just like the pms'g JOKE that D-Ray and lord rage made in SWC and silky blew her top over that. and i think numbersix's post was GREAT, and trully is a GREAT example of how moderators should take things.
