I am only able to access nightly about once a day at this time. I either get redirected to the msn page can not be found, or get the "This page cannot be displayed" message. Is there anything you can do to fix it? Its really starting to tick me off. I won't be online for a week (grounded) but if you post a response i'll have someone update me on it.

are you typing "www.nightly.net" or just "Nightly.net", try typing the "www." before...thats what works for me

this happens to me too....what i do is go to www.google.com type in nightly.net and then click on the link when it comes up, works everytime.

I really wish I could do something, but this weird little outage that randomly pops up for certain people totally baffles me. A "page not found" error would indicate a server problem, but focal is not reporting any downtime. They've been a very competent host for us and I trust that if they found something wrong, they'd fix it. And as I've said before, it's usually easy to tell when a server is acting up. It's either up or it's down. And when it's down, everybody knows it. When an outage is not widespread but is only isolated for certain people, there's something else going on. It could be something with your ISP, your browser, your internet settings, your cache, your OS or any combination of these or other factors. So if you can, try upgrading to the latest version of your browser, clear your cache (temporary internet files) or try another ISP if you have access to one. I can't guarantee that these things will work, but you never know. Without knowing what's actually going wrong, I don't know how to give a definite solution.

I get the 'page not found' error heaps though myself. Like, I go to nightly in the morning, it works. Then like, 5 hours later and my browser cant find it and sends me to that fu**ing LOP website.

When it doesn't work, I can't get in from www.nightly.net or www.nightly.net/cantina or any other forum. Links won't work, nothing. So I use the google route -- but I've found that just going to Google.com first, THEN typing in www.nightly.net/cantina in the URL space will get me there.

I've never had this problem, but perhaps it might benefit to list Nightly in your favorites and access it from there.

What you're saying MD makes sense. But with this many people having the same problem, I find it hard to believe that it's ISP or computer problems or any of that. Maybe Focal just doesn't know there is a problem.

no, Focal would know. and it's not jsut Focal, any server host would know if there was a problem like this. servers are either up or down, just like mandard said. and what mandard says makes sense, because i clean out my tem. files and so on, and it works for a while. nightly.net isn't the only problem for me. i've had problems with espn.com and videogames.com as well.
it's just a matter of cleaning out your temp files, and cookies. at least, that is what works for me. though it wouldn't have anything to do with our ip addresses though.

Actually as of last I have had some problems with the main page loading. Many times it just takes several times of trying to access the site.

I don't actually have the problem anymore. But when I did, I did do all the clean and clearing and whatever and still had problems. And only with Nightly.

Doesn't work, I get the same "not found" message.
I can only get to Nightly (when I have this problem) by accessing another site FIRST and then going to NN.
And like Silky said, I have NO problems like this with ANY other site except NN, so the problem is not with my machine.
And there's too many of us experiencing this for it to be individual problems, you know?

I've been meaning to post in this thread before because I've had the same problem since the day I signed up...but I forgot about it...ANYway, I'll get to the point:
It used to be a lot worse...so far it's toned down and it doesn't happen quite as often...but 25% of the time I'm online I can't get through to Nightly. The bullcrap "Page Cannot Be Displayed" error page shows up and...once it stayed like that for about 10 or 11 hours. This doesn't happen to me at any other sites, and i've tried many, many ways to fix it. I've cleared my cache, opened a new broswer window, gone to different sites then gone back to Nightly, used the "Google" method, rebooted my computer and/or internet connection...Rock even recommended using the site number as a URL, which STILL didn't work.
Every time this happens, I can't get through to the WHOLE of Nightly. When this happens, Internet Explorer always gives me the "Finding site: www.nightly.net" thing in the lower-left-hand corner...but it never goes on to say "Web Site Found. Waiting For Reply...".
If this is going on with more than just a handful of people...it can't just be individual computers... Ahdunno...I'm pretty sure the problem isn't with my computer...
Oh...and, it just happened again. I was trying to post this and I suddenly couldn't get through. Something tells me this all ISN'T because of individual computers...it's probably a...[whisper]conspiracy[/whisper]...

Yes Ami, that is true. I hope he does'nt mind me saying, but MacBain also was having similar problems - I actually used to have that problem for about two to three weeks but that was over a year ago - then I bookmarked an Indiana Jones page.

Bookmark it and when you get not found, right click and click on "open".

Sometimes when I let the window w/ Nightly idle long enough I'll get 404 error page when I click a link on the page.

I've been having intermitant problems for the past few weeks. I get a DNS error, which redirects the the msn search page which can't find nightly at all.
This seems to be a dns problem rather than anything else and could well be linked to the routings I get from uni as there is a massive country wide accademic network over here that all the uni's use for net access...
Also I often get a 'file download' window pop up saying 'some files can harm your comp, what do you want to do with file 'nightly[1]' I have to say open and select IE from the list to get into the main page. I can't change any settings at this end as the uni comps are locked down hard Sometimes this doesn't work which means I just can't get in.

I've had this problem for a few months... but it only seems to happen after about 5am (nightly time). It's pretty consistent that way.

I've never seen a regular pattern to these "black-outs", for lack of a better term. I know that Nightly's been up for some people cause there are new posts made during the periods where I get errors.
Since Nightly is beta-testing the latest version of Infopops BB set-up could it be a coding problem in the BB software?

I too have been having this problem for a few months (since January actually), and I sometimes cannot access nightly for WEEKS, not hours, not days but weeks at a time. I currently cannot access it from home (am using Uni comp) for about the last week or more. I have tried everything, the cache thing, google, favourites, even using a different computer on the same connection. Nothing works and its p!ssing me off. Maybe there is a common factor with those who can't access it? You know OS, firewalls or something.
