Again, people are putting spoiler material in the thread titles. Again, this can cause problems for those who want to stay "spoiler free" for EpIII...because the thread title can be viewed on the main page.

Case in point: There is a thread naming the actress who will play so-and-so. Right there that spoils me because now I know that so-and-so is going to be in EpIII. That thread title very well could have been "cast announcement" or "Another OT charater in EpIII, confirmed".

I know some people argue what is and what is not a spoiler...and some think that if it is an official announcement, then it is not a spoiler. That could not be further from the truth.

Any FACT about the movie is a spoiler, no matter what the source.

So can stopping people from putting the actual spoiler in the thread title be enforced please?

Thank you. [Smile]

You know Six, I thought the same thing when I read it, but only you can put it so eloquently. [Laugh]

I still really think that we need a separate "speculation" and "spoilers" forum. I'm all for speculating, but I don't want to know much more than characters and actors.

MD...

You know how the Mod forum's topics cannot be seen on the main page? I was wondering if the same could be done to the Prequels board? I am aware that the Mod's forum access is done on a password type thing. And I think that access has to be set manually for each Mod's handle. BUT what I'm also wondering is if there is a way to have a private forum (ie the Mods forum) but to give mass amounts of handles access in one swift go? If that is possible then the Prequels board could go private and all you'd have to do is select Nightly's member population, then grant them access. Sure that means it's not private anymore, but the topics won't be listed on the main page.

Oh if that's not possible... someone needs to petition Infopop about it.

I've seen Usergroup stuff done on other PHP forums but anyone can still see the most recent topic's title [rather whatever there is room for] on the main page.

I too, was thinking the same thing but as Destiny said, you phrased the best.

Ryn, you can complain about a forum/thread without mentioning the spoilers.

I can sort of see your point DP, but it is a Spoilers forum. And it is the EPIII board now. Though that night be the problem. When combinin g the other 2 forums you sorta left out room for EPIII speculation.

To the original post, same thing happened here. I saw two spoilers unintentionaly on the main page. And I've decided that I'm going to go completely spoiler - free, so it kinda pissed me off.

I like the idea of the thread's not being available to be seen on the main page. [Thumbs Up]

Man, this spoiler stuff always gives me a headache. No matter what I do, I always manage to screw it up one way or another. [Razz]

First off, the idea at the Ep III board is to not have to worry about spoiler warnings. That policy never worked well last time and since it inevitably becomes impractical, I figured we'd just start like this from the beginning. However, I did realize that thread titles could still cause a problem on the main page. The problem, as always, is where the line is drawn. I intended to use the same standard we had used last time, which was that information released by Lucasfilm was not considered to be a spoiler. But clearly, that's not acceptable for some people.

As Torch said, the ideal solution would be to get rid of the thread title on the main page, like it does for a private forum. But that's not an option on the UBB and I don't count on it being added anytime soon. It may be possible to do it through a hack though. If so, we would jump on that right away.

But if we can't do that, another possibility would be to simply eliminate that column altogether for all forums, which is an option on the UBB. Before, I considered that too excessive but I'm starting to change my mind. It's only mildly useful in the first place and the benefits would go well beyond the Ep III board. HP, LOTR, Matrix and other boards would also be "safe" from spoiling people through thread titles. So I guess I'll put this question forth for feedback: would anyone be terribly upset if we took out the entire "Last Post" column? It's not a necessary feature and it would solve the problem of main page spoilers from any of our boards.

Very true. But the odds are higher that specific spoilers could be mentioned in a "spoiler complaint" thread - obliquely or not - than a thread talking about PM mailboxes.

The risk is subsequently resting on the viewing poster.

LOL@ Six.....to a point. Good reply, unfortunatly I highlighted SPOILER in the thread title as a warning...and did NOT list said spoiler in the title. So I am safe.

On to Mandards comment....

I completly understand where you are coming from, it's feast or famine. Either drop the thread titles on the main page all together, or deal with spoilers. It's one of those tough lines to cross...who do you anger more. In this case, if I am only one of a very few who don't like the way it is now...then there is no sense in changing it.

This may be a totally stupid idea, but would it somehow be possible to make the Ep III forum "private", but everyone has access to it? Even though the Mod forum is private, I still can't see the last topic that's been posted, just the time.

Sorry if it's a dumb suggestion or just too difficult to do.

No, it's not possible. If you think about it from a programmer's point of view, why would you ever want to design a private forum setup where everybody could access it? It defeats the purpose. I'm sure it never occurred to them that anyone would want the features of a private board while still keeping it open to everyone.

Even though I like the thread titles on the main page, if it can keep me away from spoilers, I wouldn't have a problem with getting rid of the thread titles on the main page.

EDIT: Mandard, if you weren't going to, I'd suggest making a poll in feedback for it, instead of having the question just be in this thread. If you were going to do that anyway, sorry for my stupidity. [Smile]

Yeah but when you set a board to be private doesn't it allow you to say which users have rights to access the board? Could you just allow all users access to the spoilers board?

But I'm not really opposed to the last post column being removed either.

Theoretically, yes. But it has to be done manually. We'd literally have to go in to all 7000 accounts one by one and give them permission. Not only that, but we'd also have to do it for every new member as they registered or else they'd be blocked out too.

The day people insist that that's the way they want to go is the day that you'll find my resignation. [Big Grin]

You wouldn't have to go through all 7000, also seeing how most of them don't even have 10 posts. All you have to do is have the people who want in, to pm one of the mods for the password.

Yes but he should have used spoiler tags of some sort in the body of the thread at least, if he felt the need to include the spoiler.
Still 'spoiler' or not in the title doesn't acutally mean there is a spoiler here, and it shouldn't be. It's feedback, and should be spoiler free from all movies, tv, games, books, etc.

It would defeat the original purpose of Nightly. But I for one believe that Nightly has evolved beyond simple Star Wars discussion.

Okay I have the best idea!!!!!!! Flip the boards! That's right! Flip them. No not flip them off... that's bad. I mean put all the boards that are on the bottom on the top and vice versa! The spoiler board would be the last board listed and anyone that doesn't want to be spoiled should just not scroll down that far! Yay! Yay for Torch. Yay! Yay! Everyone clap.
