Its been awhile since we've had a forum suggestion...
I think this one might work. A cult favorite film, and a hit TV show that has not just one but two spinoffs in pre-production. While I don't think that a Stargate forum will be as big of a hit as say Prequels or even Lord of the Rings, I think that it can do as well as the other Popular Seris forums. Not only that but I know for a fact that current mod Silky Jinn is a big fan.
Come on Mandard, give it a shot.

Actually I think they are, or were working on a made for tv movie. It's pushed back now, I think, because they just all resigned up to do an 8th season. And yes I am a huge fan. So is ES. However I think a general Sci Fi board is a better bet for a board. I've said this for a long time.

I'd be up for a general sci-fi board, but would it include all sci-fi media, i.e., games, books, movies, shows, etc? If it did, how would that impact the Star Trek board, and the Books, Movies, and TV fora?

Well there would lots of non-sci fi movies, books, and tv shows to talk about on those boards. Trek is kind of special, like Star Wars. They are bigger than sci-fi. They are cultural icons. I can see them having a seperate board dedicated to them. But the rest of Sci-Fi kind of gets neglected. That's why I would like a general sci-fi board.

I wouldn't mind having a general sci-fi forum. Like ES said, Sci-Fi gets buried rather quickly on the other forums, there's lots of great Sci-Fi out there besides just Star Wars and Star Trek.
For instance
Dr. Who
Space 1999
Logan's Run
Lost in Space (classic show)
Land of the Giants
Red Dwarf
The Twilight Zone (classic)
The Outer Limits (classic)
And much more that I can't immediately remember at the moment.

A sci-fi board isn't a bad idea, except I fear it would cause a bit of trouble do to the fact that it would crossover with the other forums quite a bit.

What if we morphed the Trek forum into an all-purpose sci-fi forum?

Skip the middle man - or in this case, show - and head straight for the Richard Dean Anderson forum. Where we can discuss Stargate, his short-lived western series Legend with John De Lance, and MacGyver.

That might work. The Matrix board isn't exactly tearing it up right now either and it's sci-fi to. Perhaps both of those boards could be consolidated into a new more general Sci-Fi board. It would create a board that there is obviously a lot of interest in and perhaps make room for another new board, or least help save some bandwidth.

I'm not a Matrix board poster, but I think it should be left be at least until mid-December because there'll be a lot of Revolutions debate

Well there have been several threads where a Sci-fi board has been suggested on Feedback. But I don't think Mandard or JA jave replied to any of them with their views on the issue. They might think it's a bad idea. But I wish they would give us some type of feedback for once on this issue.

Does SJ know you're secretly plotting to get rid of the Star Trek forum?

At least a couple times I've responded to the sci-fi board suggestion, but I guess they were quite a while ago. The more recent ones did go without comment, which isn't necessarily a bad sign, because if we don't say anything, it usually means we never decided what we wanted to do. I don't hesitate to turn down ideas that don't have any hope.
The reason for hesitation is still the same as it was way back whenever. It has a lot of overlap with current boards with sci-fi TV, sci-fi movies and sci-fi books. This issue isn't as big as it used to be because there was more sci-fi TV discussion going on then. Not so much nowadays so there's not as much overlap. The best I can say is that it has been and continues to be among the very short list of boards in real consideration.
Also, for the record, I don't think a stand-alone Stargate board would make it. If anything, we'd go for the general sci-fi board.

I totally would enjoy a Sci-Fi Forum or Stargate. I love both. I spend most of my time in either LOTR or the Cantina, but a Sci-Fi/Stargate place would certainly get my attention.
