there's discussion (although minimal) about the bands whose songs they are listening to.

Is this the question with a question game of the Feedback Area?
The thread is not being singled out. Many such threads are closed. Many others remain open. If you want a particular topic to remain open, state why and give valid reasons.
{I, on the other hand, only will open a thread if I believe it has some value, no matter how trivial}

Hey, I have no problem with it being open, but for a thread to reach almost 90 pages with almost no content therein... It seems kind of out of place, that's all.

Seriously, it's a valid question, YD, no need to be a smartass about it. As for the question, I really have no answer for that, so I'll let one of the admins field it.

The rule has nothing to do with whether a thread has an actual discussion or not. It's concerned with threads that people use to post on simply for the sake of posting. I don't think this is the case with the music thread, nor with similar threads in other boards ("what are you reading?", "what are you watching?", etc). Why do you consider a thread on a music board where people post what they're listening to as merely a "post-upping" thread? Isn't a thread where people share the music they like relevant on a Music forum? Just because it's not a pure discussion thread doesn't make it pointless. The idea is that people use the thread to see what other people are listening to and not use it to simply raise their post count.
The rule is there to allow admins and mods to crack down on offending threads and hopefully get the message across to people that we don't want anyone filling up our boards and threads with pointless posts. In that sense, I guess the rule is more directed at individuals than threads. Any thread can be a post-upping thread if someone chooses to use it that way. So the rule is there to keep those people in check. In practice, it's only been used against the more blatant offenses: people posting on a thread 20 times in a row, people posting random gibberish over and over again, people posting any kind of junk just to beat another board, "up your post count" threads, "add-on" threads, etc. And then there was the recent thing of people posting 50 times on different threads just to fill up the board. These are the kinds of posting that get cracked down on, although that's not a comprehensive list. Anything we feel qualifies is fair game.

I actually do look over the replies just to see what people are listening to. Except for Yoda Dude because about 9 out of 10 of his posts are Ben Folds songs. Same with the CD thread. I'm curious as are some others.
Not to mention, if there is one thing most of the users on this board have in common is they like to listen to music.(mostly while posting) If you're board and you've got your cd player or real one player on random....why not?

Because I closed two threads in the Cantina within the last week on the afore-discussed grounds, then deleted one of Joey's posts on another thread to forestall a third closing.
It's not unlike those occasional Feedback threads of yore where someone would complain that they were being punished for no good reason while other members are untouched...never minding the fact that those other members are posting in completely forums on completely different threads under circumstances that bear only the vaguest of resemblances to their own.

It's not like was just trying to up my post count. I meant to post 3600 in that thread , but accidently posted my #3600th post in another thread cause I had two browser windows open. Sorry.

Did anyone else notice this is still going on over on the Indiana Jones forum? And that it also probably comprises a significant portion of that board's remaining traffic?
I considered notifying skiffy, but July 28, 2003, celebrated the one-year anniversary of his most recent Nightly post, and I hate to ruin his non-posting streak while he's on a roll.

Um....there was a problem with one of the regulars that posted in there but we already talked about it and worked it out. I know I'm not a mod or anything but I spend the most time there and Indy is my favorite place to go...nowadays. Sure we get a little silly in there at times but there's no spamming, I assure you. There was one incident and it was taken care of.
