What so Star Trek goes... but Buffy, Matrix, Indiana Jones, James Bond stays? Makes sense.
What happened to all the threads in the Star Trek forum?
You got rid of the RPG forum, why get rid of Star Trek too? If you wanted room for SciFi, which is a good idea for a forum, then RPG's deletion concievably gives that right? Sure Star Trek was very slow, but for crying out loud you guys kept Buffy over it?! Not to mention that Star Wars still has three boards!
If Nightly needs restructing it should be something like...
Side Note - After Episode III's release Star Wars is one forum placed as the top forum in Popular Series.

Frankly I'm pissed, because of the seemingly unnecessary deletion of Star Trek. Right now the only reason I can think it was deleted was so this new Sci Forum had a base forum topic to boost it. There was a lot of work in some of those Star Trek threads. Damn I hadn't been in there for a while, but wasn't there a chance to pick and choose which threads would be kept?!!

Torch, switching Trek over to a general Sci-Fi board was not a lightly-made decision. The admins collectively discussed the merits of such a move, and more importantly, Silky and I worked together to make this happen, as we each saw both the immediate and long-term benefits of such a transition. Generally speaking, where Star Trek goes, other sci-fi follows, and sometimes vice versa. This broadens the scope of that board, and I'm confident that we made a good decision here.
However, Torch, I do recognize that we aren't going to please everybody. I can only hope that the idea will grow on you.

Not a lightly made decision? Yet almost all the Star Trek threads are deleted (or hidden, hopefully)... several of which took ages to write are just viffp gone.
The best way to have done this, if Star Trek "has" to go, was to create a new forum for Sci Fi, leaving open Star Trek for a set time and then transfering over the best Star Trek threads as requested by the regulars of the Star Trek board.

While I do sort of agree with you on Buffy/Indy/Bond/Matrix/etc, I can't really say for sure since I don't visit those boards. No threads were not saved, but honestly I looked them over and there was nothing there that can't be started again and perhaps better. Any really good threads were deleted long before now. I just didn't see where we needed to keep threads about Enterprise episodes or complaints about how B&B are messing Trek up. Feel free to start them fresh and maybe with the wider scope of members now starting to post there, it'll get more interesting. Obviously there was not much worth looking at if you and others hadn't been there for awhile. Now we can continue to talk Trek but also other things as well.

Mod A: Hello Everybody! Everyone together: Hello, Mod A! Mod A: I've noticed some people want a Sci-Fi board. Admin A: Hey that'd be great, but is there enough of a draw? Mod B: Sure there is. Sci-Fi is huge. Tons of stuff to talk about. Mod C: Yeah I have to agree. This sounds good. Admin B: Hey and we deleted RPG so we can place another forum in. Admin A: Cool, but I'm uncertain about Sci-Fi pulling in a draw. Mod A: We could delete Star Trek and thus force everyone to talk about it in Sci-Fi, which brings in traffic and in turn justifies the new forum. Admin A: Sounds great, but what about the Star Trek threads? Mod A: Delete them. If we don't and keep all of them or let the regulars pick some of their favorites to keep... it clogs the new forum and essentially could just be enough sole topic threads to justify a Star Trek forum. Mod C: We should delete Matrix and Star Wars too then so even more traffic goes to Sci-Fi! This is perfect, that forum will be hopping! Everyone but Mod C: Hey, some one left a Snickers bar on the snack room table. Mod C: Awesome! I'm there! [runs off] Admin B: Okay, so delete Star Trek's threads. That way everyone that is forced to talk about Star Trek in the new Sci-Fi forum has to talk about everything again! Thus more "for sure traffic" to justify the forum's existence! Admin B: Genius! Mod B: You just gave yourself props. Admin B: No I didn't, it was a writer's typo. GL will fix it in post. Mod A: Yeah that should have been my line. Admin A: Alright, enough of that. Let's make some Sci-Fi! Everyone but Mod C: BREAK! [disappears] Mod C: [walks back in] Hey guys... that wasn't a Snickers. Which one of you brought the dog? Guys?

Oh come on, you know the Mod Forum isn't nearly that interesting.
We don't close forums to "make room" for others. We don't make forums to "fill space" when we have room. Forums on made based on their merits. Forums are closed based on their performance. If all our boards were constantly active, we wouldn't close any of them.
As explained, the idea was that we would keep all of the Trek discussion and simply expand it with the rest of sci-fi. There's no reason you can't talk about Trek just as much as you used to. In fact, I would be disappointed if people didn't. But we also wanted to try and widen the scope and hopefully generate more discussion and more traffic.

It's cool. I'm over it. Liken it to a child realizing a favorite toy of his, that he hadn't played with for a while was gone because his siblings took it and carelessly ripped its' legs off, used nail clippers to remove that kung fu grip, sprayed White Diamonds all over it and then presented it again in a Ken Doll's astronaut costume as a gift for his birthday. Intially mucho upsetilation, but now it's all good because Joe's still got that cool fuzz for five o'clock shadow. Flashback? Maybe... but life goes on, my friends. Onward and upyo--- upwards. Serenity now.

...JC just reminded me that our big huge Thanksgiving Trek Con '02 journal thread was in there somewhere. I have the first half of it saved, but JC didn't save any of it.
Don't suppose you kept a copy, did ya?

I'm sorry to see the Trek forum go, but I understand why.
I just wish we'd been told that the whole thing was going to be deleted. The thread NumberSix referred to hadn't been pruned and a lot of work was put into it. I wish we'd been given the opportunity to save some to our harddrive like the RPG Forum had been given.
Oh, well. Spilled milk.

I am sorry that it was lost. I probably should have put up a "Trek is being pruned" thread. However I had spent a few days looking it all over and I just felt most things could be and should be restarted. That in the past, usually no one cared enough to up anything or asked for it to be saved. I figured if it was that important and that much effort went into something that anyone wanted it saved, they would have it on their hard drive or a disk from when they made the orginal thread.
