Nightly used to go down quite regularly on the old server. It's been so stable lately, I felt falsely secure! Posts: 11064 | From: Indianapolis, In. | Registered: Jun 1999

I don't know about anyone else, but I went into a frickin' panic when I couldn't get my Nightly fix. This most recent downtime was horrible, and I almost died... I'm not kidding, really, I almost DIED!!! Posts: 13484 | From: A cold dark place | Registered: Dec 2000

I read what happened...but I still don't understand what happened. All that server mumbo jumbo went over my head.

What happened is that our host, Focal, got bought out by another company. We were migrated over to a different server without any warning and some of our settings got messed up in the move. Because our new server had different restrictions than our old one, we were unable to get in and fix things and our new host was not responding to support requests. I assume they eventually got around to it today and JA was able to get in and get the board running again.
Neither of us are very happy about this turn of events. We had a very good understanding with the guy who used to run Focal. If this weekend is any indication, we may not be so lucky with our new host. But we are up for now and hopefully, we should be able to stay that way.

I'm glad some of the “important” members were able to discover what happened to Nightly before the rest of us. Hell, when I questioned you Mandard, all I got was laughed in the face. Guess I should start reading many of those internet blogs for my Nightly fix …

Oh hush. The last thing we need is your drama queen act. When you asked me, I told you everything I knew at the time. Most of this didn't become known until last night. People who happened to talk to me later found out more than those who talked to me early. You'll live.

It seems that any posts that were made on Friday after about 1:00 pm EST were lost. We also have some broken threads right now so if people can bear with us, the board may be down for short periods of time while some forums are rebuilt to clear the broken threads.

Short=1-2 minutes. In fact, I've already done the rebuild and it was so quick that I doubt anyone even noticed.
If anybody sees any more broken threads, please report them. You'll know the thread is broken if you click on it and it says "this topic does not exist" or something similar to that.

So Mandard, does this mean we may no longer recommend FocalHosting.com for all your web hosting needs?

I went to the cable company live support and asked them what was wrong. I thought that I had been banned until they tried to get in and couldn't.

Hah!! He also told people a Lightning bolt and Godzilla, a tornado, all sorts of stuff. It was really quite funny.
I'm glad Nightly is back, but I wasn't that worried or going through withdrawls. I have other places to waste time at.

I don't think so. On what page do you see a link to that thread?

If we still get a discount, I'll bite my lip and let it go. But unless they shape up real quick, I would definitely NOT recommend them.

That's a good point. PMs would be affected the same as threads so any PMs sent Friday afternoon will be lost or broken. I think we have a PM rebuilder that'll clean those up on its own. I'll check with JA.
