Yeah, and they're always popular threads. That's why I think a forum for them would be great. Look at that Britney Spears thread we had, for example.

Lots of others did, though. There was also the Natalie Portman thread in Prequels a while back, and the Ewan McGregor one in SWC. Everyone loves pictures.

Photo album is for members to share their pics. Are there any celebs posting here that I'm not aware of? If I started making various picture threads in the social forums, someone would call flood and they'd most likely be closed.
That's a horrible solution. It involves going to a number of sites (some that may not even exist anymore) to try and find decent pictures. Here, all you'd need to do is just go to the forum and click on a thread.

After looking at the past debate on this area in light of months of retrospective thought, the idea of a new community forum and a flavor of the month forum is clearly not the correct path to go. I won't rehash the reasons, so feel free to read back through this thread for them.
I've thought over the ideas tossed around and a relationship forum seems like the only new forum idea with true merit. It could be called the "Relationships and Dating" forum.
Yeah, it might not get a lot of traffic, but we have quite a few slow forums right now. What's the harm?

Once again, I jump back on the band-wagon to support my Arch Nemesis, Mac.
There are quite a few 'relationship' topics already around, they come up enough as it is. But, with that said, some people dont bring them up, because there aint much of a place to do so.
If there were a specific forum, people would definately speak up.
I back this move 100%. I see no harm in doing it.

I back Bane and Mac on this. I don't see SWC as being anti-men but I posted about 5 times on threads that would have 300+ replies if it was in Cantina. When I joined Nightly , I was naive and childish. My temp-ban was a reality check. I have really matured over the past 4-5 months. I thank most of the posters and the Community Forums. Back to the Relationships/Dating Forum. I like the title Mac posted. It was very specific. You could give advice, get advice, and opinions.

When we shopped this idea around, it was quickly realized that the Cantina handles the relationship threads quite well. But if anyoen has stron arguments to show that it would need it's own forum, present them. There was a lot of talk/requests for a Collector's forum, but it has barely any activity.

I like the idea... I know I have thrown a lot of threads to that type of thing... some people look at it and just have to shoot the remarks that are "funny" well thats fine but I think a forum would give better feedback instead of the "funny" comments...
ya know what would be cool... if it we would do something like loveline or that old lady who talks about "stuff" every night on bravo... I would love to help with that lol
of course we could have the funny threads... I mean The Ladies Man would be great for some fun.. I could get my glass of cavotia (sp?) and have a lil fun there...
I think the forum would offer a lot more than the cantina does for those threads honestly..
I never voted for the collectors forum by the way...

Yeah, the Collector's forum doesn't really compare. If you have SW collectables, you could post about them in the SW areas and get legitimate on-topic discussion. If you have Final Fantasy collectables, you can talk about them in the FF forum. For relationship discussion, you have the three community forums. The Cantina does handle them better than most, but saying that they should be contained inside the Cantina is like trying to limit all politics talk in there. Yeah, it could work and did work, but when you opened up a whole new area for it, lots of discussion sprang from that.
See like B Man said, threads about advice are posted in the Cantina, but the Cantina is a community area. Sometimes you can get some good feedback, but mostly you get random Cantina chat, since it's not a place that people go because they really care about helping with these issues.
If we had a forum designed for threads on relationships, maybe even pick a male and female mod for it to balance it, people would have a specific place to go. Or people can post in the Cantina and hope that people are in a mood to be helpful.

True, but neither does the much requested History and Mythology forum, they both get about the same level of activity. As I recall, both of those forums came to be out of this offer from Tank to introduce new forums...
In that poll, a potential Relationship forum came in third place, getting only one less vote than the Collectors forum, so I do think there is support for it. However, if it came to into existance I think it would probably get the same level of activity as the History and Collectors forums.
Personally I'm very glad we got the Collectors forum, because we really didn't have a place to discuss certain types of toys and collectibles which didn't fit in or have anything to do with Star Wars or other forums here at Nightly.
The relationship forum is an interesting idea, but I don't think it's absolutely necessary since we already have Lando and the Cantina which are both social forums, and both of these have been fairly well suited to relationship-oriented topics in the past.
But, that said, I don't think there would be any harm in trying to separate out these topics into their own forum and see how it goes, so I wouldn't be opposed to it.

That's a pretty decent enough idea...just giving it a go & seeing how it does. Question is though, would we consider it a success if it got no greater (or less) response than the aforementioned forums SLD brought up?

I think in this case, content is more the issue than traffic.
This would obviously be a more 'serious' forum etc... and the majority of threads would be too. There would be guidelines to follow etc, due to the nature of the forum.
I think if it were given a 2-3 month trial, and we dont judge it on 'traffic' but on how the community actually replies to the issues. No doubt there would be trolls and jackasses, but that's part of the deal.
It might also be nice to have a bit of anonimity to this forum. There might be things people want to share, but not let people know that it's them etc... I dont know if we can alter the UBB for that kind of thing to let people just 'post' without their handles etc... but it's just a thought.
I dont see any harm in trying this. Especially because you post at your own discretion.

What the hell have I stumbled on? Why are you making decisions without me?
My opinion is that we should do what is best for the boards and its members. In other words, I haven't been reading any of this thread. Something about relationships. I'm not in one right now, but let me tell you! Hoo! Women! Boy howdy, can they nag! Hoho. *sigh*

Well, this is just my opinion, but I think it would probably at least need to equal the traffic of the Collectors forum in order to legitimize its usefulness.

I think that instead of a 'Relationship' forum we should make a forum for the people who are going to the Star Wars Celebra.....

THnking about it, I honestly don't see this getting tons of traffic. Yea I was with it at first, but thinking it over, while I feel it should get a shot, I don't see it having enough traffic to make it.
