From time to time, we clear out old and unused member records. We will be deleting all user names with less than 5 posts that were registered before Jan 1, 2004.
This is just a heads-up since it should not affect anyone unless you are a lurker that never posts or you have old aliases you'd like to save. The prune will be done on Thursday.

If I may ask, what benefits does something like this have on the board? What I mean, does it help performance, load wise, or is it merely a measure of keeping things clean and crisp?

I'd like to think of it as being like a hard drive defrag. Whatever it is, it cleared up 2500 users. Maybe it will let those usernames go back into circulation.
I don't know the technical details of how it helps the load, but it's something that Infopop has suggested so I assume they know what they're talking about. As it is, since we'll be moving a dedicated server shortly, it probably wasn't necessary. But there's no harm done.
