The linked topic has been deleted, but I'm guessing it had something to do with ads or pop-ups.

I dunno about the rest of you guys, but right now I'm in a full scale war with the advertisers on my computer. I've downloaded some free sofware which seems to be handling it, but I'm kind of disturbed by how much the advertisers were about to contaminate my computer and hijack my browser. Firewalls and so-forth seem to be meaningless to these new infiltrators. It's very frustrating.

I don't think Nightly has anything to do with, but for a week or so my computer was seriously f-ed up by banners and pop-ups.

Nightly hasn't utilized anything other than Google Ads. (Which you people need to be clicking more!)

for some reason the Google ads never worked for me, until SP2 was installed.

Heh, suprisingly MS, new built-in pop-up blocker is pretty good, only the odd add seems to slip thru, usually it's one made to look like a Windows system alert telling you you're computer may have spyware, I'm sure it's trying to sell something, but I won't click on it...

Same here. If a quarter of the board did that, our finance woes would be gone for a long time.

Just to make sure it's clear, spamming the boards has been and always will be against the rules. You can advertise in your signature, but direct soliciting will be deleted.

There was a thread posted in the videogames forum that looked exactly like a spam email you would receive promoting to go and buy a website logo.

Mozilla Firefox is an excellent browser, no pop ups at all and no crazy search bars, etc. that install themselves onto the browser.

Sometimes I've sat and thought, "So does all this internal dialogue type of **** mean I'm ****ing crazy, like there are almost different personalities inside me?" And then I thought, "Wait a second, who am I asking that question to!? And why?"

Yeah, like I said, I downloaded Spybot S&D and it seems to be controlling the problem for now.

Spybot is great, real great, but it won't pick up everything AdawareSE will. And sometimes vice versa(though not as much lately).

You need both.

And if you have XP, you have a firewall. Go to start, connect to, show all connections, go to the advanced tab, turn on the firewall.

My firewall was in place when my computer was corrupted... whatever they used, it got past the firewall. I'm guessing that it came in through the browser somehow.
