You can't ban or deny someone or something because it's in poor taste, especially with what's been in the news about priests over the last several years. And about being offensive, get real, offensive material in one form or another is everywhere [on the boards] - it's not like it's being advertised - come see this - don't read or look at that post, no one's forcing you to go into the Lando thread ...

I guess I am going to have to say something here.
People complain that nightly has grown more conservative, and I will agree to a small extent. Nightly is mostly a genre-fan driven site, so some content really has no place even being here.
But I am personally conflicted as a person with sense of humor that has always been one that appreciates the inappropriate and the offensive... to an extent.
It has become a pattern in the last year or so that if anyone sees something that margianlly offends them, they run here to report it, and we respond by closing it down. Sure, we set a precident a while back that we wanted to clean things up, and remove some unwanted elements. This is a charter I agreed to and supported, and still do.
To me however, it is all about context. If this particular image was posted in response to a religious debate in the Lyceum it would be rude and inconsiderate and I'd have no problem removing it. This however is in a joke thread in Lando.
You people need to understand the context of things. Awhile back, a joke thread was started in Lando and what was posted was things that had gotten people temp banned in the past. I decided to let it stay in that thread alone, with the appropriate warnings given at the top of the thread-- defining the context of what was in the thread. As a result, I have not gotten ONE complaint about it. It's been up for months and contains material that COULD get you banned if posted in the wrong light.
So I guess my point is this: I urge all of you to stop and think when you see something that offends you. There are lines that shouldn't be crossed for sure, but I want you to take a look at what is pissing you off and just stop and think that maybe it offends YOU because it pushes a button. And then maybe you can see that it is very likely that given the context of the thread you are maybe over reacting.
I'll be the first to admit, this can be a slippery slope. Am I giving people freedom now to be as offensive as possible? No, but it could snowball that way-- just as our attempts to clean up other elements have no snowballed to nightly having a PC Police brigade.
I'd love for feedback on this subject from anyone. Let's talk about it. Not the particular offense brought up here, but these issues in general. I'm sure many of you (even other admins) will disagree, but I think it's an issue worth talking about.

Lando or not, that post is just wrong and has crossed the line. The point "Its not a real picture" is irrelevant. I never knew Jesus had his photo taken?
This is the same as if someone posted a cartoon pic of someone’s mother being licked by a little girl?

Tank, I respect and understand the position you are in. I'm just not sure, even as a non-Christian, how this, even in Lando is still acceptable.
I am open to some debates about this...
I mean, I am definitely not super Christian, heck I don’t even practice much but it is still my faith and beliefs that I do hold on too. Most people who know me know not to take me 100% seriously. I love to joke around make stupid comments and dick around with lots of people in most cases to get them going. Case in point QGV, and his anti-Christian beliefs. I try to limit these things in Lando but by reading some peoples comments in the Politics and Religious forms I cant take them seriously either so I post 100% the opposite of them.

I was banned for just making a joke about that not too long ago in Lando.
Actually, I'm glad they aren't as ban happy now

Well, technically it's not pornographic. Maybe the kid is just crying on Jesus' lap, right? After all, Jesus' long, once-piece robe is all the way down to his feet in that pic. So, Jesus' you-know-what would technically be covered by the robe, anyway.

Okay, that's fair. I can understand banning sex acts and stuff, but when I clicked the link to the other thread, the person making the request to delete the image said "it's sick and blasphemous." I can understand banning something "sick," but "blasphemous"?
If "blasphemous" stuff isn't allowed, I should've been banned for posting this a few weeks ago:
