I posted this in Lando, don't ask me why, I wasn't thinking straight, but due to the whole Live8 gigs coming up, I was wondering whether it'd be possible to get one of the white "make poverty history" bands on the front page of Nightly.Net...
The white band will come up like this... http://www.angerisagift.co.uk In the top right corner, but it could be the left corner... Whatever, I just think it would be a good idea to show that the forum supports these charity efforts... Just a thought...

The only type of advertising we do is for the funds that pay for this site to be operational. We've stayed away from putting up anything else, as it would create clutter and set a dangerous precedent. There are a million charities out there and for us to put up one ad would alienate the rest that have been asked for and the floodgates would be open for future causes, making the main page look like a Nascar vehicle.
We do have the 'Public Service Announcement' option turned on in our Google Ads, so we feel we're doing our part to help mankind.

A lot of our members, like The Human Torch, place a tasteful message in their signature with a link to that charity. That's one way to get some attention to your cause.

Damnit, this isn't just a charity, this is really important, and the celebrities are all out in force behind it, you realise how often that happens? Celebrities nowadays are really lazy! Plus the white band aid thing looks the nuts...

In America? Frequently. And it goes the same way almost every time: the millionaires proclaim that the billionaires are ruining everything, and only us thousandaires, hundredaires, and allowance-aires can save the day.
Maybe your Brit celebs are a different lot, though.

Yeah, Bob Geldof's got off his arse and sorted out British celebs pretty well this time, none of that yearly Comic Relief and Children in Need half arsed rubbish, he's got a talent for organising celebrities, and organising them well... Besides I thought the makepovertyhistory campaign was international... Obviously I was wrong...

I've only heard of it because of a recent mention in Entertainment Weekly, who tend to be above-average hyper about social causes. I can't recall if it was an ad, or if it was a name-drop in their recent cover-story on Coldplay.

Yeah... The ad's a celebrity involvment isn't particularly convincing for me, but the cause is why I'm supporting it, I do think the whole clicky thing is another celebrity "We're helping by making an advertisment for a charity" thing...
