put pics in our sigs again? I know what it does and why its not good... but if you put restrictions and what not on it like the avatars had at first I think it would work really well...

I sure hope not... being on dialup makes these pages take a long time to load as it is, so everybody having a bunch of pictures all over the place would slow it down even more.

That could be solved if one could go to their profile & check a box that disables pictures within signatures. More than likely not worth the trouble though..?

Ya know how small the banner is the cantina? I would think that small would be good enough for a sig.. We have the mod particpation now and I know theres enough people willing to help with the policing of it...

Is there any point in trying something new now and again? so it didn't work out once... you've said it yourself we have better capabilities... give it a shot..

They were fun for a few weeks, but concerns regarding dial-up users aside for the moment, one of the things that I've grown to really like about Nightly over the years is how clean it looks. One of the big reasons for this is because everything isn't cluttered up by repeated banners in everyone's signature. Whenever I end up at another board when I'm looking for information on various things or to see what's happening elsewhere, I'm amazed by how terrible everything looks.
Now, if you bring back in the dial-up concerns, which I'm sure probably face more members here than you might think, having to potentially deal with loading banners in people's signatures in addition to their avatars could make coming to Nightly a huge chore. Now, Exodus mentioned a possible check box to disable pictures in signatures on the member side of things, but I don't see how that would be possible, really, although I must admit that I don't really know how the system works. However, unlike the disabling avatars option where the only thing that can go into the avatar slot is an image, the signature could contain text as well, so it seems to me that the only ways to supress the images in the signatures on the user end would be to disable the signatures themselves for everyone, which I know I don't think would be a particularly reasonable solution. Like I said, though, I don't really know anything about the technical side of everything and am just guessing.
Lastly, unless I'm really mistaken, which I don't think I am here, when we had the signature images enabled, we did not have the option of avatars. Now we do and they give us the ability to associate/express ourselves with an image. Going back to both loading issues and aesthetics, one image should certainly be enough for most people to get across what they want to. If it's not, we also have the photo field in our profiles where we can put something else should we want to. Then people have the option of seeing it if they want to and don't have to worry about it loading everytime they go somewhere where that person posts.
Anyway, those are just my thoughts on the matter, although it's not like they really matter at all.

I think having images in sigs would be really cool, but there's no way to limit it to a certain size. And also, the 56k'ers.

And I look at profiles so I can get a feel for where people are coming from when they make their posts so I can understand them better, but I'm sure I'm in a small minority there.

Agreed. There are members out there with outrageously long signatures that annoy the crap out of me. Can you imagine what they'd do with pictures?
While we're on the subject, can we decrease the amount of total allowable characters in our sigs or at least the number of lines?

Signatures are fine. What we need to do something about IMO is the amount of characters in ones display name. Names like...

just clutter up the screen & make everything look funny. Yeah, we should limit the amount of characters allowed in ones display name
