I originally pitched this to one of our admins via PM, and he asked me to throw the idea here to also gauge potential member support. I don't usually bother with proposing new board ideas, as I think we have a good variety of interests already represented. However, the more I think about it, the more a board dedicated to the TV show Lost seems to make sense. Of course, I have a few reasons to support this:
* From the premiere of the series, the show quickly developed a cult following. It has been one of the highest rated and most talked about new programs in the past few years. * The first season of the show hit retail recently and has enjoyed some solid sale numbers, including some healthy pre-sale numbers. The DVD set has over 8 hours of extra features that are guaranteed to fuel the already rampant speculation common among the show's fans. * In the TV forum, the Lost topic has stayed near the top of Page 1 consistently for almost a year, and has about a dozen pages of discussion among quite a variety of board members. * In regards to the speculation factor--from what I've seen, I think it's safe to say that the amount of speculation and predictions for this series is on track to rival that of Star Wars and Harry Potter. There never seems to be any shortage of related topics to discuss, whether it's plot, characters, development, etc. * The new season starts a week from today, which will usher in all kinds of new discussion and speculation, especially as the mystery continues to deepen, unravel, and deepen again, as well as the addition of new characters adding a new dynamic to the formula. *The current long-running thread isn't conducive to anybody who wishes to discuss spoilers. Conversely, it isn't really accessible to fans who would rather discuss concrete info instead of sifting through the speculations of others. *Almost all of the characters have a dedicated (and sometimes ravenous) fanbase, but going into too much of a discussion about particular characters would really derail the current thread in the TV forum (and I doubt that the TV regulars would appreciate that board being flooded with Lost topics!).
I see a lot of potential for a topic board such as this. If a Lost board were created, would you visit and/or contribute to discussions? Why or why not?
Thank you in advance for your thoughts/opinions.

Omigod I was just thinking we should have a Lost board. I had wanted to do a poll but I thought it would be silly since there already was a Lost thread and the TV people would hurt me. And I then thought there are so many things on the show to talk about we should have a board. Heehee. I'm totally there. Obviously, look at the thread in TV. And there are plenty of Lost boards out there but I never want to post on them because they just don't have the style and class of Nightly. It would bring lots of new people I'm sure. And there could be topics for every episode and every character. It totally would work.

I haven't watched the show. I plan on buying the DVD set eventually and then taping the newer episodes so I'll pick up on them after I watch them.
I think that if there is the support for the forum, which I've noticed that there is by the amount of people in the television section of Nightly, then by all means, do it.
And if you do it, why not hide the forum so then that way it could really be LOST and only true devotees can find and discuss the show on a regular basis.

I'd be up for a lost board. It's an awesome show. I know i'd post there.

I'm for it! A Lost board would generate some traffic for Nightly. All of the Lost boards I go to are busy. It will need a good moderator though because some people will want to discuss spoilers and some won't.

I agree with ES! If the forum is approved, a process to select the moderator should be quickly delegated and agreed upon to patrol the board. Nice suggestion, EwoksSuck.

Yeah, it would be a good idea. But like ES said, there will need to be a good moderator, because British audiences are almost a Season behind you guys...

What's not to love, my handle is finally in a board title. Just add "in Coruscant" to make it perfect. If the board's popularity goes down, you could always do that. Wow, what a jolt in the arm that'd be. Then I would finally have a board devoted exclusively to me.
Again, I approve of this plan.

Believe it or not, we're actually considering this. However, three of our Admins appear to be dead, so the discussion is moving a bit less briskly than one might hope.
If YOU know the whereabouts of any other Nightly Admins besides me, please call 1-800-CRIME-90 and let one of our operators know right away. Because YOU, the viewers at home, can make a difference. Thank you.

If this administrative body is not capable of action, I suggest new leadership is needed. I move for a "vote of confidence" in NumberSix's sole leadership.

I'm aliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiive!
I just don't know how to make new forums. I am sitting back and learning like a good newbie admin should do so I don't break the board.
