I've been at Nightly for a long time and I've seen it go through it's ups and downs. I haven't been around for a while for reasons of my own. Nightly has the potential to be a really great community but it's just lacking discipline. Serioudsly,. everyone does what they want and don't fear any concequences because the mods don't do what they can to crack down and make sure internet idiots don't crap up our board. This isn't the mods' fault, or even the admins, it's just kind of always been how Nightly is. Bans are shocking, closed threads are unusual (depending on what board you're in). The Something Awful forums has a system for this that's perfect, and that's probation. Basically it's a temp ban, with usually a short timer. So, if someone makes a mistake, it's fine, you just put them on probation. It usually lasts for like 24 or 48 hours, and then they can post again, no big deal. It's definitely a concequence, but it's not that harsh either. This probably isn't built into the boards, but I'm sure some code for it can be found easily enough. I think it would make the community a whole lot better, as well as making the mods jobs easier.

I think that's already being done here... altough probably not exactly like at Something Awful. What forums are you talking about anyways? The Save Point, Final Fantasy, and Digital Wasteland boards sure don't deal with any internet idiots. I wouldn't know about any others, but those three are usually in control... heck, maybe even unwelcoming to newbies at times.

Well not so much internet idiots as much as... AMU. Come on let's face it. He's a problem. People like this need to be dealt with. Also, there are just way too many posts that have no substance at all. I think posts will be more worthwhile if we start cracking down. People who WANT to participate will be here, not just people looking for boards to post their pointless **** on.

I think we should have to pay money to get a custom title... except that you can also change the title of another person. I'm can't remember if it's Fark.com or somethingawful that uses this, but it's hilarious.

He's an old Cantina vet, but he kind of abandoned it and posts once in a great while in Save Point. He got me to Nightly. He's one of my best buds in the -gasp!- real world.
That's all the credibility he needs because HE'S SUPER KEWL.

I like the idea of paying/donating to change other people's user titles. I think that would be swell. We'd have to make it so the title had to stay changed for a certain amount of time though, to get our money's worth.
