I've seen them all over the place on other forums. If you give people a specific place they want to go to get into the **** with someone, I think it'd be less work for the admins and mods to deal with modding and curbing flaming elsewhere.

Lando really is a friendly and tightly-knit community. You just have to look past the surface and be willing to get to know people.

I do miss the so-called old days there were it would be rocking. There are various reasons why it isn't like that anymore ............ no doubting the community atmosphere which I like in so many NN boards.

I feel a community atmosphere here, which I dont get anywhere else, too.

I agree with Trila, Lando is an insanely fun place to go and read. And you all do have a very tight nit group. One thing that may deter people from actually posting there is all of the flaming that goes on there which is often in a joking manner but someone new probably doesnt know that.

Wait...does that mean picture threads will get zapped and lose their pictures? I had thought not, but maybe I skimmed over something.

Picture threads will be converted. What we were referring to were pictures in your profile.

I've never really had a problem with the UBB either. But there are two main reasons we are making this switch. One, the UBB is no longer being developed. There's no chance for any future updates such as security and bug fixes or new features. This is unacceptable. Second, we outgrew the UBB a long time ago. Its flat-file system is pretty archaic when it comes to forum software, and as a result the larger we get the slower it will run. In fact it's underperforming right now and has been for a while.
So really this switch was inevitable. InfoPop (now Groupee) was developing a PHP/MySQL version of the UBB, but that's been in the works for 2 years now and we still don't know how much longer we might have to wait. There's a real chance the concept might just be scrapped.
Someone asked why we went with Invision Power Board. Really it was between IPB and vBulletin. phpBB doesn't even compete in terms of code structure or security. We chose IPB because we liked their feature set and design more than vB.

So is that to say that Nightly could undergo another change if this PHP/MySQL version of UBB is ever released, or would you just as soon stick with what we're about to switch to once we've got it?

I would imagine they'll be new. I can't say that with 100% certainity but I would think they have their own set of graemlins.
Sorry for not being able to give a straight answer on some things, but fear not, we're not flying blind in this thing, Mandard and JA know what the hell they're talking about. The rest of us admins will try to help answer questions but know we're not as knowledgeable on the tech end of things as the aforementioned two.

If possible, I'd like to keep the graemlin set we have. I won't guarantee it, but it should be doable.

If the PS3 is so incredibly superior to the Xbox 360 in game quality, game quantity, game breadth, game visuals, depth of the digital entertainment experience and price, God bless them.

Sounds good, lets go. And I must bring it up again, will we get anymore smileys, or will they be different, or will they be more numerous AND differtent, or what?

Check out Mandard's latest post. Graemlins=smileys. So the plan is to implement our current set into the new board if it can be done.
