A few years ago, yeah I would have probably agreed with you. But you have to consider the ratio of broadband users as opposed to dial-up users currently. I'm sure that if you were to look into the information, you'd find that there would be a much greater amount of broadband users than other lesser speeds. I'd be willing to bet that it's well over two thirds.

As additional information, here's a report citing pretty much what I said, in reference to Nielsen Net Ratings in the context of usage of the entire web..
quote:A news study Tuesday said home broadband usage in the United States grew 28 percent in the past year to more than 95.5 million homes.
The report from the Nielsen company said the number of U.S. homes using broadband grew from 74.3 million in February 2005 to 95.5 million this past month. That translates to 68 percent of U.S. home Internet connections.
Given that this is in reference to the web as a whole, and not our particular section of it specifically, I'd say that the prevalence of broadband is a given. Playing down to dial up users isn't very necessary anymore. Especially when their attention and resources can simply be diverted with a "56K Warning" flag in a thread title.

What's so bad about linking videos, etc.? Not everyone wants to have to load up so much crap on a message board just to see anything anyone's posted (text-wise).

Given that numerous moderators, Destiny Skywalker included, have stated that they'd like the Photo Album to include other types of multimedia such as video, it seems like a viable option.
Also, in reference to the possible scenario you describe, I don't see it being a problem as long as threads with videos are flagged as such. If you don't want to load it, you don't have to.
I'm not saying all of the boards should be html enabled, just relevant ones. The Photo Album in particular. And in all honesty, that board is slow as Christmas nowadays. Basically, everyone posts in the "favorite picture of yourself" thread. Such a move to enable html might liven it up a bit.

I don't see a problem with linking to a video, though. Videos can take awhile to download and buffer and that would absolutely kill someone with a modem connection.
But yes, more multimedia would be good. We have some talented members around here.

It is when one of 'em is an Admin.
I can see the attraction, but I still don't see how mere linking is an overbearing inconvenience.

We should also keep in mind that the Invision Power board is going to offer us a more robust set of UBBcodes. Many of them will likely handle what one may like to use HTML for on the UBB.Classic system.

Even with high speed internet I hate having videos automatically load on a page. It pisses me off when people post them on someones Myspace comments. If I wanted to see it, I'd have clicked on it on my own, I don't need it pasted all over my page.

I'll confirm that there will be a way to post your Google or YouTube videos. It may not be a board-wide thing, but either in the new photo album or blog pages for sure.

have separate video and photo albums. then, as jacob says, if you want to see vids, you go see them your self, rather than having them forcefed. and HTML is a good idea. although text color/ size, which is primarily what i would use it for, ar enabled on php:
(images arent working for me, so i cant tell if its visible or not)

It's visible^^^ and what annoys me which I haven't seem here is when people make these huge picture avatars that take up half the screen.

Cool. That works great then. That's basically all I wanted the html for anyways.

Since PMs and polls were mentioned, will the amount of PMs we can keep in an account remain the same (60)?? And how exactly will the polling feature be different? I think the poll query was answered (?) ...

Zackly. Yes, we have talented members, and there are lots of people around here who would be glad to host their stuff.

I'm gonna be bored the next couple of nights.
You're not the only one hon and eventhough I have no problems with there being a big change I see nothing wrong with what is here at the moment.
