destiny... that's interesting, i wonder where the globe and mail got that statistic?? 54% is a huge number... could you post that article here???

here in ottawa, the cas adopts children to gay couples pretty regularly, and we don't have a problem with those adoptions breaking down at all. in fact, the gay couples that i know are some of the best parents ever... as adoptive parents, they HAVE to take courses and training in parenting. again, i'd be curious to know where the globe found that number.

any agency that had a 54% failure rate on their adoptions should be investigated.

And when you say that 2 same-sex parents in a home is "unhealthy," by what standards? Are the children more prone to come down with chicken pox, measles, and rubella? Or do you mean that the children are more likely to develop psychological disorders? In either case, you're wrong, at least according to all the studies that I have seen published.

I know, I know. But it's just this whole debate is so ig'nant. I just wish someone would clarify for me the following:

1) How much less married am I if gay people get married? Is it some percentage per gay couple, or for every gay couple that marries, one hetero couple has to divorce, or what? How does it work?

2) Will it warp my child forever if we let our lesbian friends babysit her? Even though they are church-going (go figure), have a really nice house, and are totally responsible adults?

Your sources are probably bias. Most gay articles are. lol

The Globe and Mail is a respected AND liberal National news Paper.

And you ask what the harm is... IT IS ALLLLLLL UNNATURAL relations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!PLAIN AND SIMPLE. If people have gay urges, don’t act upon it… Sometimes I have the urge to kill people but, I won’t act on it… It’s the same old argument! “What harm are they doing, blah, blah, blah”! or “It’s consenting adults, blah, blah, blah” Sorry but man is not meant to have sex with man!!!

As I said before, what’s next legalizing marriage between humans and animals? and NO humans ARE NOT ANIMALS!

You guys are all hypocrites… I make one comment not directed to anyone yet you tend to all poke fun and blah, blah, blah. How else you you like me to respond? Just bend over and take it in the ass?

YES I AM ANTI-GAY!!!! JUST LIKE 60% OF ALL CANADIANS
YES IT SHOULD BE ILEAGAL!!!
NO IT IS NOT AGAINST CHARTER OF RIGHT!!!
IF YOU WANT TO BE GAY, KEEP IT IN THE CLOSET AND OFF THE STREETS!!!

AND I AM DONE DEFENDING WHAT IS RIGHT!!! I AM LEAVING THIS GAY THREAD!!!!

destiny, what is up with you??

you come on this thread and say something like '**** you, queer', and then get all hot and bothered when someone calls you on it??

if you want a rational debate, then don't say stuff like '**** you, queer' to defend your point of view.

as far as your 'globe and mail' article, like i said earlier, i'd like to see it before i put any stock into it. i just talked to a social worker, and this stat you've tossed out is completely new to her, she's never heard such a thing.

and i just noticed something...
boobahs is on YTV?? i get boobahs on TREEHOUSE TV, YTV whenever i turn it on is 'power rangers ninja storm', 'power rangers dino attack', 'power rangers action rescue', 'metabots', 'yu-gi-oh!', 'teenage mutant ninja turtles', 'transformers armada', and all kinds of other shows where they pretty much just fly around kicking and fighting each other. not to mention the fact that every commercial is for something my kids turn around and ask me to buy for them... i can always tell when they've been watching YTV because they are begging me for some barbie or hotwheels thing, and my son is jumping off the couch karate-kicking the wall.
my kids are all over 6, treehouse tv is of no interest to them whatsoever.

oh, he's not from quebec, he's from somewhere around toronto, ontario.

quebecers are all for gay marriage... it was the vote of quebec mps that actually passed the vote through the canadian parliament.

i'm not sure why destiny feels he needs to change his location... at one point he said he was from australia, i believe...

whoops... i'm sorry, destiny!! i thought it was just another one of your location change gags...

it's interesting that the bloc supported the legislation whole-heartedly, and enjoys tremendous support in quebec, yet quebec seems to be very religious, especially the roman catholic faith.
is it just that they are so much less uptight sexually, as a province, so they feel comfortable being religious AND can support same-sex marriage??

HEY, DESTINY!

I have a question for you!

Would you detail what 'shameful lifesyle' you speak of? Every single gay person and couple I know lives the exact same kind of lifestyle I do...I feel like I'm missing something. So many conservatives talk about the 'gay lifestyle' adn nobody can explain it to me.

And I'm with you on the flag-waving. I don't think toddlers have ANY place in politics. I am sickened whenever I see kids too young to really understand what's going on at Republican conventions and Democratic speeches. I think parents have NO business indoctrinating such young kids into something they clearly can't grasp. Toddlers have no place in politics of any kind. It's gratuitous.

DESTINY, you really need to chill out, or go post somewhere else where there are topics that don't cause you to behave in such a manner.

Much of what you have said in this thread is offensive to me (and a lot of other people here), but I haven't seen anybody screaming "**** off, breeders" in your general direction.

If you don't agree with gay marriage, hey, there's probably nothing I can do to convince you otherwise, and there's probably nothing you can do to convince me you're right. But even if we disagree to the bitter end, it still needs to be civil.

What about all of the straight guys who have multiple offspring with different mothers and don't do anything to support them? I'd say a gay daddy that takes good care of his kid is a 1000 times better than a straight daddy loser who does not. There are kids all over the world who just want a positive male role model in their life...gay or straight doesn't matter.

DESTINY--many gay couples use artificial insemination, either to impregnate one of the women in a lesbian couple, or to impregnate a female relative or close friend of someone in a gay couple. I still fail to see how gay marriage threatens the sanctity of straight marriages, and you haven't presented any statements backing this claim up; to me, it seems to only enhance the definition of marriage and make it more so a universal institution of love than simply a legal union. Why do you feel so threatened by gay marriage, to the point that you want to go out of your way to break up peaceful demonstrations that have no effect on your life?

Oh, also: the word "gay" is not an insult. So please stop using it as such.

Paratech writes a leeter to the editor RE: Gay Marriage

While I think marriage is between a man, woman, and God, I don't think many people *heterosexuals* take marriage that seriously anymore...

I doubt homosexuals will do any more damage than heterosexuals have done to marriage...

But I think the Supreme Court will handle this issue and rule in favor of gay marriage...But that's just a guess...

Exactly.

In fact, in the year following the new law in Massachusetts that allowed gays to marry, the rate of marriage between men and women went up. So really gay marriage is good for straight marriages.

well, destiny, i HAD to check this out, i have never heard of such a statistic here in ontario, and seeing as how i work in the industry, it wasn't hard to follow up on this one.

after talking to people at the childrens aid society here in ottawa, i can GUARANTEE that this statistic you have quoted is WRONG. TOTALLY INCORRECT. when i asked about why the 'globe and mail' would have printed such a wildly incorrect statistic, one social worker commented that 'it could never have been printed, we DEFINETLY would have heard about it... global TV for sure would have been all over us for interviews as it would have been a HUGE story.'

so, either you totally misread that article, destiny, or you just pulled it out of thin air to justify your belief that same-sex families are somehow 'bad'.

in fact, i was told by the staff, the same-sex couples have a LOWER rate of adoption breakdown, in fact it would appear to be almost nil... the gay community has a lot of supports in place for all the families who adopt children. they truly are a VERY welcoming community for all the children that we, the heterosexual community, cast aside.

so, i would respectfully request, destiny, that you RESEARCH your information before you toss it out here as FACT.

Sigh,

I've been following this debate and I have to hand it to you, your ability to put up with the bilge spewed by DESTINY is incredible. Is this guy serious? As for that last statistic, who ever heard of 54% return rate on adoption? I would assume the gay couples are permitted to be foster parents in Canada. Do you know what percentage of the foster parent community is comprised of gay couples/individuals?

Lastly, as to the issue of marriage, IMO many people simply object to the use of the term "marriage" for gay unions. Why this should make any difference, I don't know. Here in New Jersey we call them "Domestic Partnerships" but they do not afford all of the rights that married couples enjoy. Oh yeah, I always have to laugh at this notion that allowing gay couples to marry will somehow destroy heterosexual marriage. The divorce rate is like 50% in the hetero community--not much more damage you can do there.

P.S. I do have to confess, being an attorney in a law firm that handles divorce cases, the idea of permitting gay marriage does have a financial component to it. But all in all, its an equal rights issue, and there is simply no basis to claim that gay couples should not enjoy the same rights. Good luck on your continued debating with DESTINY.

As I said before, what’s next legalizing marriage between humans and animals?

This argument always makes me laugh. If you truly believe that gay marriage will lead to humans marrying dogs and cats, then why desire for any form of marriage to be recognized by the state? I could just as easily give an argument that says, "Straight marriages? What's next? Gay marriages? We better not have straight marriages then." And my argument actually has evidence backing it up.

Gay marriages are not going to lead to humans marrying their pets. In fact, nothing is ever going to lead to a state recognition of humans marrying animals. A marriage is a legal contract between people. Two human beings must sign on the dotted line.

If you want to ask a question like, "What's next," that's fine. But to jump to this absurb conclusion is not going to appeal to the thinking population.
