quote:“I was just horrified because that didn’t fit in with my idea of customer service,” said Leavy, library director in Lee County, a fast-growing suburb of Albany, southwest Georgia’s largest city.
But when patrons ignored her staff’s polite pleas to return $12,000 worth of overdue books, DVDs, audiotapes and other materials, Leavy changed her mind.
“When you start crunching the numbers, it makes sense to use a collection agency to be more fiscally responsible,” she said during an interview at the Lee County Public Library, which has about 10,000 card holders.
Wow, what is this world coming to? You weasels need to return your books and DVDs!

I'm guilty, I just returned a book today that was due in June of '04. Thankfully I wasn't hunted down and killed or anything, I just had to pay 3 bucks.

Three bucks isn't bad for two years. Did you drop the book and the money on the counter and run like hell? Or did you stand there for the humiliation?

Haha! As a matter of fact I did drop the book and the money on the counter and ran like hell. I called beforehand, see, and found out how much I owed. It was The Great Gatsby, and I didn't even read it.

You should've thrown the book at a librarian across the the hall in an overhand fashion which resulted in one of the corners of the book connecting right with the temple. Then as the librarian goes down, run over and throw the money on his fallen body. Then you just walk out like you're a badass.
Okay maybe you shouldn't have done that, but would that ever be a sight to see!

Oh man you're right! That can be the big finale. You yell out "So long suckers!" and leap out the nearest window. Good call.

Just make sure it's not higher up then then street level... that might be a lot of pain just to return a book. That is unless you've got a really cool friend that drives a swimming pool truck!! Then you could just jump into the back of that!

Hey, I pay my fines. Or I wait until my library has a 'feed the hungry' day or whatever and lets patrons pay fees with cans of non-perishables. $1 per can, it works out nicely. I hope the hungry like corn!
