Who's seen em? I've seen their version of LWW many times, and just recently saw Prince Caspian and part of Voyage of the Dawn Treader. They're not exactly top quality... poor acting, bad special effects even for the 80s, etc. But they're fun. I really enjoyed the music and Barbara Kellermen does a great job as the White Witch.

Compared to the money the BBC was putting into other shows at the time, their adaptations were rather lavish.
I enjoy watching them, though I've held off on viewing them this year because of the upcoming movie.

Well, watching them will definitely help improve your appreciation for the upcoming film. There's pretty much no way the new one won't blow the BBC ones out of the water.

As much as I loved the books, I kinda felt ripped off by the movies. Here's hoping LWaW lives up to my expectations.

Whereas I absolutely adore the BBC adaptations. They were a major part of my childhood (I was five when TLTWATW first aired) and it was because of them I first read the books, though I didn't understand most of them because I was too young at the time.
I watched them all again very recently, and they still hold the magic for me. Well, except for The Silver Chair, which I was never as fond of anyway.
I haven't read the books in years, but when I'm done with my HP re-read, I'll be starting on Narnia Posts: 41 | From: UK | Registered: Aug 2005

I found that the actors didn't fit how I imagined the characters. I mean, Lucy was fat! But for the times, I suppose they where good-ish. The best feature was the music, which I loved. It fitted very nicely.
I hope they do a better job of Aslan than that moth-eaten robot.

I used to love as a kid, and just bought the DVD boxset of them all last night. Probably I'm just warped by nostaglia, but I still think they're great. They've got a charm and heart that I think will be missing from the movie (what I saw of the trailers, anyhow)

We watched it in school right after we got done reading the book way back in like 3rd grade, I liked it then, but watched them again in high school and thought they were terrible.

and after watching the BBC version i read the books... it's amazing how much dialogue from the book is in the BBC version... it's like an exact book to movie translation

yeah. that was good in a way, i suppose. i hate it when they take a book and keep only character names and a very basic plot for the movie. like 'A Little Princess'.

They did that with LotR. Most of the chapter names were worked into the dialogue which only the true nerds picked up on.
Sometimes you have to make changes to a movie to make it work. However I expect LWW to convert nicely. It is short and the events and story are very straight forward.

I loved the BBC Adaptations, they were such a nice thing to sit down and watch and get taken away into a magical world, its nice to be able to go back to being a small child and remember all the thoughts about magic. I really loved the Dawn Treader, I have started watching them again recently.

I don't actually think the upcoming film will be as good as the BBC adaptations. Those followed the books perfectly. Though the upcoming film might have better special effects &c., I doubt it will remain as true to the books. (I can't imagine that a modern movie would keep all the biblical allegory, for example- teaching Christian doctrine to children was more acceptable in those days, I guess).
Though I wish I could say otherwisse, I think this film is going to butcher what Lewis had in mind. And then there will the action figures and the video game, and on and on... big budget movies ruin good books.

there's really not to much Christian stuff in it. you can disregard it if you do notice it. i never noticed the Christ parallel until someone said 'you know that narnia is a Jesus Christ story in and alternate univers?'

Please stay on topic, if you wish to discuss the Christian aspects (or lack thereof) in the series do it elsewhere.
I loved the BBC versions as a child, I still do love 'em. My favorite is....mmmm...when I was younger, it was Prince Caspian, though I hated the girls didn't do more. Now I really love The Silver Chair.

they ARE good. great, in fact. it's just, they're so old . they'll always be dear to me, but the new version will be great too, because it will look more like my vision of the books.

Notwithstanding all of the flaws in the BBC versions ... I found that version of LWW more enjoyable than the new one. Somehow, the BBC version took me more into the story and the characters. It was as if the bad effects etc. made me appreciate the story more - with the new version, I felt quite disengaged - the focus of the movie seemed to be on scenery and effects but not the story itself or the characters.
Also, I though Caspian in BBC VOTDT was fantastic. I hope Caspian in the Disney version is as strong as an actor.
