So as some of you know, I sent in an application the other day for a new reality show on CBS revolving around Pirates.
I don't know if this is step two in the process, or that they send this to everybody who didn't send one already, but I got an e-mail back from them today that said they liked the application and they want me to send them a 2 to 3 minute video tape.
Soooo... I have to make it this weekend and send it out on Monday or so.
They gave me some more details on the project.. They say that I would be living on a pirate ship for 30 days, competing in challenges and voting each other off, ala Survivor.
SO... Does anybody have any ideas on what would make my video tape stand out?

Obviously everyone is going to be doing their best pirate impression. So... maybe go left field. Be a ninja? Be the Ship itself? Be the parrot on the shoulder of a Pirate??

OR, I could be really really bold and inform them (show them?) right away that I can't do half the stuff that they said was important on the application, and have that be the reason why I should go.

Keep it short. Definitely don't go too long, or too fancy, but also keep it well editted and not just you sitting in front of a camera talking.
Voice-over tends to work pretty well, as you can cover all of the information while at the same time showing any skills you need to show.
Not the same thing, but I helped a friend with a video application and one of the reasons she was chosen over several others was because her video was much more high quality than everyone else.

They aren't really looking for somebody in particular i dont think. They just want some energetic unique people.
I'll think about it tonight and tomorrow and tape something tomorrow night.
I'm pretty psyched though. Obviously it's still early on, but I dont think they'd of sent me the e-mail if I didn't at least make it past the initial toss outs.
They provided me with a casting office number and all that jazz. So it's looking slightly more probable!
Also... Tank would be someone to ask about demo reels... which is basically what you're doing if you plan to do more than just talk to them about yourself etc etc.

Be all like I made a video showing me living the lifestyle of a true pirate but then i got carried away and raped, slaughtered and pillaged 4 small towns on the eastern seaboard.
i'm now serving 13 consecutive life sentences.
p.s. i couldn't send you THAT video because the man confiscated it.
that's what i'd do maybe probably not.

Ooh I got it TR! Build yourself a carbide cannon! [Be sure to dress up + paint the casing to look similar to a period cannon.]
You can fire it off, or order someone (off screen) to do so, at some point {or points} during your short presentation.
...Oh word of warning - you might want to check with city ordinances to see if you can fire a carbide cannon in town. Otherwise find a place outside of town to fire it.
